“ | For the preservation of our blue and pure world! | ” |
—Blue Cosmos’ motto, Mobile Suit Gundam SEED, The Nightmare Reborn |
Blue Cosmos (ブルーコスモス Burū Kosumosu?) is a radical anti-Coordinator activist group introduced in the anime Mobile Suit Gundam SEED.
Overview[]
Blue Cosmos was formed by resentful Naturals and is the dominant political force behind the Earth Alliance military. According to the Blue Cosmos ideology, genetic modification is a violation of the natural order, and all Coordinators must be exterminated "for the preservation of our blue and pure world."
History[]
Blue Cosmos was originally an environmental pressure group, but after George Glenn revealed his identity as a Coordinator in C.E. 15, they changed their emphasis to terrorizing and killing Coordinators. They especially desired the destruction of the Ultimate Coordinator, Kira Yamato, and carried out an attack on the Mendel Colony in C.E. 55.[1] Over the year, the ideology of Blue Cosmos spread, particularly in the Atlantic Federation, with many of its senior military members or political figures, such as William Sutherland and Muruta Azrael.
In the following years, Blue Cosmos experimented in creating an army of obedient soldiers to fight against Cooridnators. Programs were created to indoctrinate Natural children into Blue Cosmos, training them in military tactics and conditioning them to hate and kill Coordinators. These children were subsequently assigned to the covert unit, Phantom Pain.[2] Some children were taken to hidden laboratories where they were made into Biological CPUs, enhanced humans who, through the use of mental conditioning and performance boosting drugs, were superior to the average Coordinator in combat.[3][4]
During the First Alliance-PLANT War, Blue Cosmos actively attempted to destroy the PLANT Colonies, the Coordinator homeland, beginning with the destruction of Junius Seven.[5] During the war, civilian militias affiliated with Blue Cosmos waged guerrilla warfare against ZAFT forces stationed in Africa.[6] As the war continued, Muruta, the leader of Blue Cosmos, became the de facto leader of the Earth Alliance and ordered a nuclear attack on the PLANT Colonies, leading to the Second Battle of Jachin Due. The attack ultimately failed and Azrael was killed during the closing stages of the war.[7]
Unfortunately, the events of the war and the signing of the Junius Treaty did not affect Blue Cosmos. Sometime after the first war, Lord Djibril, leader of secret group known as Logos, became the new leader of Blue Cosmos, effectively putting the organization under Logos’ control. In October, C.E. 73, the Orb Union's Chief Representative, Cagalli Yula Athha was forced to visit Armory One due in large part to pressure on Orb from the Atlantic Federation, which was still largely controlled by Blue Cosmos.
Towards the end of the Second Alliance-PLANT War, the fall of Logos and later the death of Djibril, along with the significant shift in the majority of the Atlantic Federation populace's perception of Coordinators brought about by the Campaign Against Logos, would the organization finally meet its end.

Notes & Trivia[]
- The Blue Cosmos is similar to Ku Klax Klan as both organization's ideology revolve around a superior race who would at one point heavily dominate the western superpower (Blue Cosmos led Atlantic Federation and KKK influenced USA) to spread their ultra nationalism by leading the alliance (Earth Alliance and United Nations).
