Chryse Guard Security (クリュセ・ガード・セキュリティ Kuryuse Gādo Sekyuriti?, abbreviated as CGS) is a private security company introduced in the Mobile Suit Gundam IRON-BLOODED ORPHANS anime. [1]

Overview[]

Chryse Guard Security (CGS) was a private military company located in the Chryse Autonomous Region on Mars before being replaced by Tekkadan upon its formation. They take on jobs that are requested by third parties. There were two known divisions: The First Corps and the Third Group. It was led by Maruba Arkay at the start of the series, and eventually Orga Itsuka after Maruba fled and the Third Group took over.

While there are a lot of adults employed by CGS, they also use a lot of children.[2] When the children grow up they are divided into different task types.[2] If they grew up to be strong, they are used as soldiers who operate mobile workers.[2] If not, then they would be assigned miscellaneous tasks such as cleaning the ground or piling up sandbags.[2] The kids that are sent to the battlefield usually gets exhausted and die so the CGS regular buys more of them in order to help prop up the front lines.[2] Because they cost around the same price as scrap iron, this becomes an affordable proposition.[2] Some of the children are also forced to undergo the Alaya-Vijnana implant surgery, which is both very painful and potentially fatal but allows them higher spatial awareness and the ability to directly interface with certain mobile weapons.

From a financial perspective, the CGS pales in comparison to the likes of Gjallarhorn. They only possess obsolete mobile workers with no mobile suits in deployment. This is because mobile suits are prohibitively expensive for a small group.[3] Even if CGS were to have sold all of their mobile workers, they will not be able to afford buying a working mobile suit of their own.[4] As a result, if a large military organization were to ever attack them with mobile suits, they would stand little chance with just their mobile workers.

In truth however, they possess a Gundam Frame-type mobile suit that was placed inside a secret hanger. It was found a long time ago in the Martian desert by a former chief of the company.[5] The Gundam Frame was missing its cockpit, so it was useless as a weapon.[5] However, since its Ahab Reactors were still functioning, it was used as a power reactor for the company's base.[5]

History[]

Post Disaster 323[]

In P.D. 323, CGS was hired by Kudelia Aina Bernstein to escort her to Earth, and she specifically requested the Third Group for the mission. However, on the night she arrived, CGS was attacked by Gjallarhorn. The company's president, Maruba Arkay, and the First Corps, the company's main forces, chose to flee the battlefield, leaving Third Group as their decoys. However, Third Group's Orga Itsuka and Biscuit Griffon had anticipated this worst case scenario and rigged one of their TK-53 CGS Mobile Workers to launch a series of flares, alerting Gjallarhorn to their position and forcing the enemy to divert their forces.

Initially, the Third Group held their own due to them operating their mobile workers through the Alaya-Vijana System and the land mines that were buried across the battlefield the day before. However, this changed when Gjallarhorn deployed three EB-06 Grazes to the battlefield. Knowing CGS stood no chance, Orga ordered Mikazuki Augus to pilot the ASW-G-08 Gundam Barbatos that was refitted to working condition by installing a cockpit from one of their mobile workers. Mikazuki in the Gundam Barbatos battled the three Grazes and killed the enemy team's leader, Captain Orlis Stenja, sending the remaining Gjallarhorn forces into retreat. In the aftermath, there were 42 causalities from the Third Group and 68 from the First Corps. President Maruba had fled, leaving First Corps in de facto command.[6]

Following a successful coup d'etat, the Third Group's leader, Orga, gave his fellow colleagues the option to either stay and pledge loyalty to the new management or leave with a severance pay. Those who resisted rather than choosing one of the options were executed by Mikazuki. The decision on giving out severance pay was done in order to keep the group's reputation intact.[7]

After that, the Third Group began to assess the company's financial situation, and discovered they had only about three months worth of money left. Todo Mirconen anticipated an eventual reprisal from Gjallarhorn and suggested selling out Kudelia to them. But before they could make a decision, they were interrupted by the sudden arrival of Gjallarhorn's Lieutenant Crank Zent in his Graze. Crank challenged Mikazuki to a mobile suit duel, demanding the captured Graze that previously belonged to Orlis and Kudelia if he won, and added that CGS would be left in peace. Orga accepted the challenge despite Kudelia being willing to give herself up to Gjallarhorn. While Crank and Mikazuki battled in their mobile suits, Orga renamed the CGS as Tekkadan.[7]
