The Deuterion Beam Energy Transfer System (デュートリオンビーム送電システム Deyūtorionbīmu Sōden Shisutemu?) is an energy distribution system used in the series Gundam SEED Destiny.
Technical Information[]
Near the end of the First Alliance-PLANT War, the appearance of the Neutron Jammer Canceller made it possible to install nuclear power in MS again, but the signing of the Junius Treaty after the war banned its use on mobile suits and military weapons, making it illegal to deploy nuclear-powered MS. In addition, as the armament and performance of MS improved, their battery capacity could not keep up, and a solution to this problem was urgently needed.
Under these circumstances, a power supply and recharge system known as the Deuterion Beam Energy Transfer System was developed by ZAFT as a way to extend the operating time of the MS without using nuclear power. Its technical roots are believed to be in ZAFT's research into the development of Solar Sails and GENESIS. With the Deuterion Beam Energy Transfer System, a Deuterion Beam is emitted from a mothership to recharge the MS that receives them, with the recharging completed within seconds.
History[]
The system was first tested on ZGMF-X101S ZAKU Splendor. The system's beam transmitter was eventually installed on ZAFT's newest ship, the Minerva (which to date is the only ship installed with this technology), while the system's beam receiver was installed on ZAFT's newest Second Stage Series mobile suits, the ZGMF-X56S Impulse Gundam, the ZGMF-X23S Saviour Gundam, the ZGMF-X24S Chaos Gundam, the ZGMF-X31S Abyss Gundam, and the ZGMF-X88S Gaia Gundam.
The system was first used in combat when the Impulse was damaged by the YMAF-X6BD Zamza-Zah outside of the Orb Union, and was running critically low on power. It managed to break away from the fight long enough to get close to the Minerva, which then fires the Deuterion Beam at the receiver unit in the Impulse's forehead, recharging the mobile suit within seconds.[1][2] The system was never used with the stolen Chaos, Abyss, and Gaia units because the Earth Alliance did not have any ships outfitted with the transmitter system.
After the Second Alliance-PLANT War, the Deuterion Beam Energy Transfer System was installed in the ZGMF/A-42S2 Destiny Gundam Spec II, allowing it to emit a Deuterion Beam from its forehead to recharge the battery of the ZGMF-56E2/α Force Impulse Gundam Spec II while in the field.
Notes & Trivia[]
- The instruction manual of Master Grade Force Impulse Gundam speculates that the Deuterion Beam Energy Transfer System is inspired by ZGMF-X11A Regenerate Gundam's ability to receive energy wirelessly from an external source.
- This is a similar concept to that of the Satellite System from After War Gundam X, where a beam of energy is shot at a mobile suit to charge its Satellite Cannon.
