Personality
Nothing can be said of Dr. J's true personality, but it is assumed that he is like the rest of the gundam engineers. He appears to be a very kind man as he took the total stranger Heero Yuy under his wing and trained him until the beginning of Operation Meteor. Further strengthing this theory is that he encouraged Heero to follow his own path or when he saved the stranded Relena Darlian without knowing a thing about her. He also appears to care about peoples safety, as he told Relena to stay away from Heero if she valued her life. He seems to think of Heero as a son/grandson as he considers Heero a close person to him, asking about him after his mission began and calling him a 'rascal'
Skills & Abilities
Weapons Skill: It can be assumed that Dr. J is either a weapons expert himself or he is a very skilled negotiator as he was able to save Relena Peacecraft/Darlian from OZ soldiers and get away without a scratch.
History
Doctor J was one of the scientists who designed the Tallgeese, but quit OZ when the Alliance began oppressing the colonies. The scientists were contacted by Dekim Barton to construct the Gundams for retaliation against the Alliance. However, all the scientists disagreed with Dekim's plan called Operation Meteor.
Quirky but affable, Doctor J is immensely proud of Heero's abilities and encourages the young man to choose his own fate, including protecting Darlian and rejecting Operation Meteor. It was J who chose Heero's codename, which he thinks is highly appropriate. However, when Heero felt guilty over killing a girl and her dog while sabotaging an Alliance mobile suit base, Dekim ordered Doctor J to retrain Heero; J agreed but feared that the real Heero Yuy would not like it if his protegee lost his humanity.
He also saves Relena from OZ's hit squad and tells her about Heero's past. He helps her in returning to Earth, explaining that he's seeing the traits of the first Heero Yuy in her.
Doctor J was reunited with his fellow scientists, who were all apprehended by OZ. Lady Une demanded that they construct mobile suits more powerful than the Gundams. The scientists complied by creating the Mercrius and Vayeate, both respectively displaying defensive and offensive capabilities. Suddenly, Heero attempted to destroy the Mercurius with the incomplete Vayaete but the scientists activate the former's shields.
The scientists and pilots were then slowly suffocated by Tsubarov, who considered Une's decision to keep their enemies alive irresponsible. However, Une returned just in time to set the captives free. The scientist then met with Heero and Quatre, explaining the complexities detailing the ZERO System, which was what caused Quatre to go on a rampage. Then, OZ found them but they stubbornly tried to test out the ZERO system on Wing Zero, piloted by Heero, who went on another rampage.
The scientists later was captured by the White Fang group, who were lead by Quinze and then Zechs Merquise, to assist them in complete the battleship Libra and reconstructing the Mercrius and Vayeate as mobile dolls. However, they secretly made the former's cannon incapable of firing consecutively.
During the final battle, the scientists are found by Duo Maxwell. They have him take them to Peacemillion, which crashed onto Libra's main cannon, where they would rewired its engines to prevent it from falling to Earth. Once they had finished their preparation, they are confronted by Quinze, who berates them for changing Operation Meteor. They all died when they re-activated Peacemillion's engines to propel Libra way from Earth.
Doctor J is voiced by Minoru Inaba in the Japanese language and Dave "Squatch" Ward in the English language.
