The FF-S5 Raven Sword is a space fighter featured in MSV-R: The Return of Johnny Ridden.

Technology & Combat Characteristics

The FF-S5 Raven Sword is an Earth Federation Forces space fighter developed shortly after the end of the One Year War. It is based on the FF-X7 Core Fighter, however, various features are omitted including transformation capabilities. Because it didn't have the need to combine with a mobile suit, the Raven Sword was mounted with a more powerful rocket engine, making it much larger and giving it higher performance than the Core Fighter. Weapon-wise, in addition to the two missile launchers the Raven Sword features four 2-barrel 30mm vulcan gun, which increase its firepower significantly over the Core Fighter's four 25mm vulcan guns.

Armaments

  • 2-barrel 30mm Vulcan Gun
The Raven Sword is equipped with a total of four 2-barrel 30mm vulcan guns. They are primarily used to ward off advancing enemies, shoot down missiles, and hitting other fast moving targets like aircrafts. The vulcans, however, are not very effective in piercing heavy armor (though they had shown the ability to do severe damage to mobile suits if fired at point-blank range) and thus are not often used against larger, more heavily armored foes.
  • Missile Launcher
Two missile launchers are mounted onto the Raven Sword. These fire rocket-propelled missiles that are used for bombardment and dealing damage to heavily armored foes that the vulcan guns are incapable of.

History

Approximately 400 Raven Sword units were constructed by the end of U.C. 0080. However, it is retired from service by U.C. 0084.
