On March 23, 2008, a 3-meter tall statue of the RX-78-2 Gundam was erected at the south entrance of Kami-Igusa Station in Suginami, Tokyo, the home of Gundam franchise owner Sunrise. The statue took two years to complete. The total cost of the statue was approximately 20 million yen, with 2 million of this amount subsidized by the government and the rest from Sunrise itself. The base of the statue reads "Daichi kara" (大地から? lit. "From the Earth").[1]
