Akahana (赤鼻 Akahana?), is a character from the Mobile Suit Gundam television series and the Mobile Suit Gundam II: Soldiers of Sorrow compilation film.

History[]

Akahana was a mobile suit pilot and explosives expert belonging to the Principality of Zeon's Marine Corps and Intelligence Strategy department of Kycilia Zabi's Zeon Mobile Assault Force.

Akahana's team would work with Char Aznable in attempting to sabotage the Federation's base at Jaburo by planting explosives within the base's GM factory. Unfortunately, the plan fails when Kikka, Katz and Letz accidentally uncover the bombs. The three children would gather the bombs within a single jeep, which Amuro Ray disposed of. Seeing that their plan had failed, Akahana and the other Acguys are initially ordered to cause a commotion to buy time for their escape.

In spite of their best efforts, Amuro boards the Gundam and chases down the retreating Zeon forces. Akahana would be the last of his team to perish when Amuro cuts his Acguy in half with a beam saber.

Mobile Suit Gundam: The Origin[]

Akahana's role in the manga would play closely to his anime counterpart, but it is instead shown that the Zeon forces were able to sneak into Jaburo with help from the local tribes, who were opposed to the Federation's industrialization of the rainforest. In the manga, Char's attack in the 29th episode, and Akahana's attempt at sabotage in the 30th are merged together instead. Like the anime, Akahana's team attempts to destroy the GM factory but is foiled by the White Base Orphans.

Rather than retreat like in the anime, Akahana's team instead fights their way to the control room and successfully open Jaburo's base to Kycillia's forces. During the aerial battle, Akahana attempts to withdraw with the rest of his team but is caught by a GM and is forced to engage. Akahana dies when the GM fires its beam spray gun pointblank at his Acguy.
