Al Da Flaga (アル・ダ・フラガ Aru Da Furaga?) is a character introduced in the anime Mobile Suit Gundam SEED.

Personality & Character[]

Al is described as arrogant and apathetic. Believing his wealth and influence put him above the law, he had no problem violating laws he saw as restrictive.

Physical Aspects & Clothing[]

History[]

Al Da Flaga was an influential and affluent Atlantic Federation politician. Al had a son, Mu La Flaga, whom he saw as "tainted" by the inferior DNA of a mother. Believing his son to be unworthy of inheriting his fortune and legacy, Al conspired with Professor Ulen Hibiki to created clones of himself. Although Ulen was hesitant to violate the laws forbidding cloning, Al managed to persuade him by offering funding for his Ultimate Coordinator Project.[1] Eventually, Rau La Flaga, Al's first clone, was born. Al saw Rau as superior in every way to his "brother", Mu, and choose to install him as his heir and disinherit Mu.

Al had Rau educated in the ways of the social elite, but as time passed Rau experienced a mental breakdown. Eventually, Al discovered that the cloning process created several abnormalities within Rau, including accelerated aging. Without a guarantee that Rau would succeed him, Al commissioned Ulen to create several more clones, one of whom became Rey Za Burrel, to find a way to overcome the instabilities. Deeply broken after finding himself being more of a tool to Al's maniacal ambitions, Rau set the Flaga's mansion on fire, killing both Al and his wife, and leaving Mu an orphan.[1]

Legacy[]

Although Al had long since died, his legacy lived on in his clones, and Rau's resentment towards him and Ulen became the very foundation of his hatred towards humanity; both Naturals and Coordinators alike.

Relationships[]

Al Da Flaga's Wife[]

Nothing much is known about his relationship with his wife, except that he saw her as inferior to him.

Mu La Flaga[]

Al's only son, their relationship was greatly strained following the revelation that Mu had inherited his mother's "inferior" DNA, and was deemed unworthy of inheriting his father's wealth. However, as revealed in one of the pictures by Rau album, it seemed that both father and son's relation in the past wasn't as bad as it seemed, though this could be sometime when Mu was still that of a toddler.

Rau La Flaga[]

Al's first attempt at cloning himself, Rau at first seemed to have no problem with Al until he learned of his origin and his intended purpose of existence when eavesdropping on his parents, which caused a mental breakdown and prompted him to murder his template. Rau later changed his name to Rau Le Creuset, and donned his trademark mask to hide his resemblance to his template.

Rey Za Burrel[]

One of Al's later clones, unlike Rau, he seemed not to encountered his template.

  • Kōzō Mito (the same man whom voiced Ray Yuki) was the original voice actor for Al Da Flaga but in the Special Edition, he was voiced by Toshihiko Seki, Rau and Rey's voice actors. This change was purposely made to indicate him being the template to both clones.
