Chlust Moses (クルスト・モーゼス) is a character from the Mobile Suit Gundam Side Story: The Blue Destiny video game and manga.

History[]

Chlust Moses was a researcher at the Principality of Zeon's Flanagan Institute. His research topic was different from other researchers at the institute: he sought to duplicate a Newtype's combat abilities using a computer, allowing even Oldtype soldiers to match them in combat.[1]

As his research progressed, he became more and more fearful of the Newtypes, believing that their heightened combat ability was evidence that they were created to fight an enemy, that enemy being the Oldtypes. His views were outlined in his book "Do Humans Evolve Into EXAM". Though this theory was criticized by his peers at the Flanagan Institute, Moses gradually shifted his goal from developing a system that grants the power of a Newtype to developing a system to eradicate Newtypes - the EXAM System.[1]

At some point, Moses adopted a girl with Newtype aptitude named Marion Whelch, who assisted him with the development of the EXAM System, believing that it would help bring peace by bringing an end to the war sooner.[2] Unfortunately, during a testing accident, Marion became unconscious, and the EXAM System became functional at the same time, implying that her conciousness was somehow absorbed into the system.[3]

However, both the EXAM System and its test machine, the MS-08TX[EXAM]Efreet Custom, were plagued with many technical difficulties: the EXAM System was prone to going berserk and attacking friends and foes alike when it detects a Newtype through Psycommu, or when a large number of people die (the latter was believed to be due to the influence of Marion's spirit), while the Efreet Custom would overheat after activating the EXAM System for five minutes. These limitations caused Moses to defect to the Earth Federation before Operation Odessa in order to continue his research.[3]

With the assistance of Federation technical officer Alph Kamra, Moses developed the Blue Destiny series, three EXAM-equipped mobile suits based on the RX-79[G] Gundam Ground Type: the RX-79BD-1 Blue Destiny Unit 1, which was tested on Earth; the RX-79BD-2 Blue Destiny Unit 2, which was tested in space; and the RX-79BD-3 Blue Destiny Unit 3, which was intended to be spare parts for Units 1 and 2.[3] Due to his personal taste, Moses ordered both Unit 1 and Unit 2 to be painted blue.[4] Kamra, fearful of the EXAM System, placed a limiter on Unit 1's EXAM System, something Moses was most likely unaware of.[3]

In the end, Zeon pilot Nimbus Schterzen tracked down his research facility on Earth and attacked it, killing him and stealing the Blue Destiny Unit 2.[5]
