Doctor Berg (ドクター・ペルゲ?) is a character from the manga New Mobile Report Gundam Wing Dual Story: G-Unit.

Personality & Character[]

A deranged mad scientist, Berg was completely obsessed with the idea of creating the ultimate mobile suit, and had very little regard for human lives. In order to accomplish his goal, he was willing to commit murder and pit MO-V and OZ Prize against one another, completely disregarding the lives lost in the process. He was also an egomaniac, ultimately planning on ruling the Earth sphere, even making plans to kill as many people as possible in the event that he fails.

Skills & Abilities[]

Berg was a gifted mobile suit engineer, having created the G-Unit, which included many unique features not seen in any other mobile suit. He was capable of upgrading existing mobile suits or designing new ones in a relatively short amount of time. In addition, he was also a skilled manipulator, playing MO-V and OZ Prize against each other without either side noticing for a long time.

History[]

Early life[]

Other than the fact that he seemed to have been a mobile suit designer for a long time, Berg's past was a complete mystery.[1] However, the accelerate rifle that he designed for the G-Unit was said to have been originally developed by an OZ quantum physics lab, hinting that he was a former OZ scientist.[2]

Working for MO-V[]

In A.C. 185,[3] Berg sought to use the resource colony MO-V for his own plans. However, he was opposed by Mark Bernett, a designer of spacecraft engines. Because of this, Berg orchestrated a shuttle accident, killing Mark and his wife.[4]

Having removed the one obstacle in his way, Berg was hired by Roga Hermann to become head of MO-V's development office.[1] Using MO-V's resources, Berg developed the OZX-GU01A Gundam Geminass 01 and the OZX-GU02A Gundam Geminass 02, two mobile suits that were collectively known as the "G-Unit". Ironically, they were piloted by Odin Bernett and Odel Bernett, the orphaned sons of Mark Bernett.[5] In A.C. 195, MO-V decided to join OZ because of Lady Une's propaganda. Meanwhile, the development of the G-UNIT was kept secret, and Hermann hoped to present them to OZ once they are complete.[5] However, Berg secretly leaked intelligence about the G-UNIT to OZ Prize, an independent unit within OZ answering only to the Romefeller Foundation, causing them to attack MO-V.[6]

During a battle between the G-UNIT and the Stardust Knights, the leaders of OZ Prize, Odel was apparently killed when his Geminass 02 was sent into a space minefield. However, Berg saved him, gave him a new identity as "Silver Crown", and ordered him to infiltrate OZ Prize.[3] He then transmitted modification schematics for the Geminass 02 to OZ Prize, allowing them to modify it into the OZ-10VMSX Gundam Aesculapius.[6] In order to draw out the full potential of Geminass 01, Berg demanded Lucille Aisley to have Odin train harder in activating the PX System, saying that his G-Unit was perfect and it was the pilot's fault that it lost to modified Leo. He then sent a transmission to the Stardust Knights, asking them to come pick him up. In the ensuing battle, while Odin fought the Aesculapius piloted by Roche Nattono, the other two members of the Stardust Knights, Kratz Silvy and Broom Brooks, led an attack on MO-V itself in order to extract Berg.[6]

Meanwhile, Lucille found Berg putting on an astro suit in his room. Berg asks her to send his regards to Roga right before Broom breaks his window with the OZ-06MS-SN3 Leo-N and catches him (nearly sending Lucille flying into space in the process). With their goal accomplished, the Stardust Knights broke off the fight and retreated.[6]

Working for OZ Prize[]

Back at the OZ Prize flagship, the Grand Chario, Roche was angry at the fact that he was unable to defeat Odin and the Geminass. At this point, Berg introduces Silver Crown to the Stardust Knights, and says that he will be piloting the Aesculapius from now on. Roche seemingly recognizes Silver Crown's true identity.[6]

At MO-V, Roga was furious that Berg was a spy all along. However, communications officer Tricia Farrell noted that Berg left behind data for the G-Unit's new parts, as if he wanted them to continue the development of the G-Unit. Meanwhile, Berg sent Silver Crown in the Aesculapius to attack MO-V. Silver Crown proved to be much better at piloting the Aesculapius than Roche, and when the Geminass activated the PX System, Silver Crown activated the Aesculapius' PX System as well. Odin was shocked, since he and Odel were the only ones who could use the system. However, the battle was interrupted by Roche in the OZ-06MS-SS1 Leo-S, who told Silver Crown that he was the only one allowed to defeat Odin.[7]

At the Grand Chario, the Stardust Knights were confused that the Romefeller Foundation was not responding to their communications. Unbeknownst to them, Berg sabotaged their communications, disappointed that OZ Prize was nothing more than a "rich boys club", and that the Foundation had made a little girl their new leader. He told Silver Crown that they must prepare for the next stage as a shadowy figure approached in a shuttle.[7]

Working for Valder Farkill[]

OZ Prize's blockade of MO-V caused panic among its people, forcing the MO-V government to evacuate its citizens. Roche promised that OZ Prize would not harm the shuttles, not knowing that Kratz had become dissatisfied with him "playing knight". During the evacuation, the OZ-15AGX Hydra Gundam, a new Gundam created by Berg, suddenly appeared and destroyed two of the shuttles. It was piloted by Valder Farkill, an OZ ace pilot nicknamed "Dark General of Destruction" and the mysterious figure seen earlier. Kratz decalred that Valder would become the new leader of OZ Prize. Broom objected and was immediately killed by Valder.[8] Elsewhere, Kratz betrayed Roche and destroyed his Leo-S, though Roche survived and was later rescued by MO-V.[9]

Back at the Grand Chario, Silver Crown proposed a new plan of attack: attaching boosters to an abandoned resource satellite and crashing it into MO-V. However, this was a ruse, and the true intention of Silver Crown - who was in fact Odel in disguise - was to deliver the OZ-19MASX Gundam Griepe, concealed within the resource satellite, to Odin.[9] The plan succeeded, but Odin and Gundam Griepe were later captured and taken to the Grand Chario due to a plot by Valder. During this time, Berg inspected Griepe and was shocked that it utilized Mark Bernett's research on spaceship engines. He remarked that the Bernett family was trying to stop him and that he would use them to prove the worth of his Gundam. When Roche arrived in the OZX-GU01LOB Gundam L.O. Booster to rescue Odin and engaged the OZ-13MSX1B-S Vayeate Suivant piloted by Soris Armonia and the OZ-13MSX2B-S Mercurius Suivant piloted by Luna Armonia, Berg prepared the Gundam Griepe for Odin and released him, wanting to learn Griepe's performance. The two Gundams engaged the Armonia sisters, but their fight was interrupted by the Grand Chario firing its Grand Nova cannon at them. The Armonia sisters were seemingly vaporized while the two Gundams evaded the blast, causing Berg to be impressed by their mobility.[10]

As the final battle between the World Nation and White Fang approached, Berg gave a speech to the OZ Prize members aboard the Grand Chario, expressing his goal to take over MO-V and then defeat both the World Nation and White Fang. Valder asked Berg if he intended to take over the world, to which he replied that it would not be bad if the ruler of the world was also the maker of the strongest mobile suit.[3]

Death and final contingency[]

After OZ Prize launched its final assault on MO-V, Valder, piloting the Hydra Gundam, engaged Odin's Gundam Griepe. Berg attempted to destroy MO-V with the Grand Chario, only to be stopped by Odel in the Gundam Aesculapius. Berg offered Odel a job at his side, saying that someone of his talent was rare. When Odel refused, Berg exclaimed that he was disappointed in him and ordered his OZ-02MD Virgos to attack Odel. Odel activated the PX System, yet was still overwhelmed by the Virgos, who seem to know his every move, Berg having programmed his piloting data and the G-Unit's data into their systems.[11]

Berg repeated his offer, and when Odel refused again, Berg said that he would kill him in the same way that he killed his father, revealing that he orchestrated the shuttle accident that killed Mark Bernett in order to complete the G-Unit. He also revealed his intention to take over the Earth sphere. Enraged, Odel activated PX System Overdrive and destroyed the Grand Chario's bridge, killing Berg. In his last moments, Berg hysterically screamed that the G-Unit he created was the strongest.[11]

Unfortunately, Berg's death activated a contingency program within Grand Chario, which would cause it to automatically head for Earth, destroying every colony in the past, before crashing into Earth and causing a large nuclear explosion. With Hydra Gundam still standing in the way, Odin activated PX System Overdrive and destroyed the Hydra Gundam in a final clash. This rendered the Griepe's PX System unusable, making it unable to stop Grand Chario. However, Odel and Roche arrived and combined the parts of their G-Units with the Griepe. Using this final G-Unit, Odin annihilated the Grand Chario, finally ending Berg's schemes.[11]
