The GN-006GNHW/R Cherudim Gundam GNHW/R (aka Cherudim Gundam GNHW/R) is a variant of the GN-006 Cherudim Gundam introduced in the second season of Mobile Suit Gundam 00, and is piloted by Lockon Stratos.

Technology & Combat Characteristics[]

The GN-006GNHW/R Cherudim Gundam GNHW/R was the final battle version of the GN-006 Cherudim Gundam, and deployed in the final confrontation against the A-Laws and the Innovators.[1][2][3][4] "GNHW/R" was an abbreviation for "GN Heavy Weapons/Rifle".[2][5][6][7] Compared to the original Cherudim Gundam, the Cherudim Gundam GNHW/R was equipped with additional weaponry in the form of two more GN Beam Pistol IIs, and six new wireless, remote-controlled weaponry known as GN Rifle Bits, significantly increasing the Gundam's attack power.[2][4][6][8] Due to the equipping of the GN Rifle Bits, five of the GN Shield Bits were relocated from the mobile suit's rear waist to the left shoulder, resulting in a large shield composed of seven GN Shield Bits.[2][4][8][9]

Both the GN Rifle Bits and GN Shield Bits are wireless, remote-controlled weaponry, but while the GN Shield Bits focused on defense, the GN Rifle Bits enhanced the Gundam's long-range shooting capability, transforming it into a more aggressive mobile suit.[1][2][8][10] As with the other beam weaponry, the performance of the GN Rifle Bits improve when the Cherudim Gundam GNHW/R activate its Trans-Am System.[2][11][12] Support from the AI-equipped robot, Haro, was necessary to take full advantage of the Cherudim Gundam GNHW/R's features.[2] For example, Haro could control multiple remote weaponry, reducing the burden placed on the pilot.[8][9][10][13] The Cherudim Gundam GHNW/R's design was later used as the basis for the GN-010 Gundam Zabanya.[14][15][16]

Armaments[]

  • GN Sniper Rifle II
Like the original Cherudim Gundam, the Cherudim Gundam GNHW/R was equipped with a GN Sniper Rifle II for long-range precision shooting.[1][2][7][17] This weapon was developed from the GN-002 Gundam Dynames's GN Sniper Rifle, and featured improved basic performance.[2][8][13][18] In particular, its accuracy was enhanced due to the installation of the crystal sensor at the top of the rifle.[8][13][19] By folding its barrel, the rifle could change from Rifle Mode to Triple Vulcan Mode (also known simply as 'Vulcan Mode') for use in close to medium-range combat.[2][5][13][17] The Triple Vulcan Mode was easier to wield and effective at handling multiple enemies at close-range.[3][13][17] The Triple Vulcan Mode could rapid fire beams from three muzzles, as suggested by its name, and had sufficient power to destroy enemy mobile suit.[5][7][20][21]
  • GN Beam Pistol II
A beam firearm for close-range shooting, the Cherudim Gundam GNHW/R carried four of them, two more than the original Cherudim Gundam.[2][6][8][10] Two GN Beam Pistol IIs were stored on the sides of the backpack, like the original Cherudim, and the other two were stored on the left and right sides of the rear waist-mounted GN Drive.[2][8][17][22] Despite having low firepower due to their small size, these pistols were shown to be capable of destroying enemy mobile suit in certain situations.[2][13][23][24] They were also easy to handle and had excellent rapid-fire performance.[2][4][8][13] Furthermore, the bottom section of each pistol's barrel was coated with a beam resistant coating, enabling the pistols to block/parry enemy's GN Beam Saber, as well as physical blade, such as the GNZ-007 Gaddess's GN Heat Saber and GNW-20000 Arche Gundam's GN Buster Sword.[2][10][20][25] Since the Cherudim Gundam GNHW/R was not equipped with any blades, it utilized these pistols for melee combat as well.[2]
  • GN Rifle Bit
The GN Rifle Bits, also known simply as 'Rifle Bits', are large, wireless, remote-controlled weapons that specialized in long-range bombardment, but their long effective range came at the cost of reduced rate of fire.[5][8][10][26] These newly developed beam weapons possessed precision shooting ability and attack power equivalent to the Sniper Rifle's.[1][2][6][10] They were capable of engaging multiple enemies at once, and like other offensive type remote weaponry, they were designed to operate primarily in the medium-range combat zone.[2][26]
Thanks to the crystal sensor embedded in each Rifle Bit, the ability to search for enemies was improved drastically, and these weapons could be deployed for other missions, such as collecting enemy information.[2][9][27] The Rifle Bits could also combine with each other, and Cherudim Gundam GNHW/R was equipped with six of them, four stored on the rear waist-mounted GN Drive and two stored on a movable mount on the right shoulder.[2][7][10][22] Additionally, the pair of Rifle Bits on the shoulder could rotate about their mount and fire at enemy units, serving as fixed beam cannons.[1][5][8][10] The six Rifle Bits were said to be capable of functioning as shields while attached to the Gundam and when deployed as remote weapons.[8][28]
  • GN Shield Bit
Like the original Cherudim Gundam, the Cherudim Gundam GNHW/R was equipped with nine GN Shield Bits - wireless, remote-controlled weaponry that deploy a GN Field on their surface to achieve high defensive capabilities.[2][4][17][26] However, some changes were made to their storage locations following the equipping of the GN Rifle Bits, with seven of the GN Shield Bits now gathered on the left shoulder, while the remaining two were still stored on the knees.[2][4][7][8] Also known simply as 'Shield Bits', they could function as individual shields, or combine with each other to form large shields of various shapes and sizes.[1][10][13][29]
Capable of defending a wide area and against attacks from any directions, the Shield Bits could also be used to protect Cherudim Gundam GNHW/R's fellow Gundams and their mothership, the CBS-74 Ptolemaios 2.[1][13][26][29] Due to their defensive nature, the Shield Bits were primarily deployed within a short distance from the Gundam.[26] While focusing on defense, the Shield Bits also have offensive power as they were installed with a beam gun each, with a muzzle located in one end for firing beams.[2][13][24][25] When required, the Shield Bits could change to 'Assault Mode', an attack specialized form where four bits gathered in a square formation with their muzzles pointing forward, and jointly fires a large, powerful beam.[6][7][23][25] However, the Shield Bits' attack power were still rated lower than the Rifle Bits'.[26]
  • GN Missile Pod
The Cherudim Gundam GNHW/R retained the four GN Missile Pods of the original Cherudim Gundam, one in each of the front waist armor's green-colored, rectangular blocks.[1][6][30][31] Each GN Missile Pod carried two GN Missiles, and when used, the front waist armor segment would flip open for launching these missiles.[1][4][6][30] Besides firing all eight GN Missiles at once, it was also possible to only fire GN Missiles from selected GN Missile Pods.[1][30] The GN Missiles could be used to damage enemy mobile suit, for interceptions, and to restrict enemy movements.[4][25][27]

Special Equipment & Features[]

  • Sniper Mode
Like the original Cherudim Gundam, the Cherudim Gundam GNHW/R could switch to 'Sniper Mode' when the red crystalline cover on its forehead lifts up to expose the built-in head sensor unit designed for precision shooting.[2][4][10][13] The crystalline cover served to protect the sensor, which is an ultra-precision device that may lose its function even when slightly damaged.[13][27] The Sniper Mode was often used together with a rifle-shaped shooting scope in the cockpit.[4][8][9][32] This shooting scope enabled Lockon Stratos to perform the act of "shooting" in the cockpit, and it essentially functioned as a controller for the GN Sniper Rifle II's Rifle Mode.[13][17][30][32] The shooting scope was mounted in the cockpit's ceiling, it lowers down when in use and retracts when not needed.[4][7][9][33]
A special system that when activated would fully release all of the compressed high-density GN Particles accumulated in the Gundam, enhancing its mobility and defensive capabilities as well as allowing it to perform at three times its normal output for a limited time.[3][34][35][36] Additionally, the entire Gundam appeared red and afterimages were generated when moving.[3][10][25][35] As with the original Cherudim Gundam, the Cherudim Gundam GNHW/R gained access to the precision shooting system known as Holoscreen during Trans-Am.[2][3][10][29] Unfortunately, the Trans-Am System is a double-edged sword, as once it ended, the Gundam's performance would drop as all its GN Particles were used up.[3][34][35][37] This negative effect would last until the stored GN Particles within the Gundam returned to normal level.[35][37] The new Gundams deployed by the Celestial Being in AD 2312 were all designed on the premise of using the Trans-Am System actively, thus, although a certain drop in performance remained unavoidable, the deterioration would not be that severe until they could not battle.[3][11][13][19] Furthermore, these Gundams were able to deactivate the Trans-Am System at any time.[11][12]
  • Holoscreen
A precision shooting system housed in the backpack, the Holoscreen was deployed in front of the Cherudim Gundam GNHW/R's head when the Gundam was shooting in Sniper Mode during Trans-Am.[3][4][10][13] The Holoscreen uses the increased amount of GN Particles during Trans-Am to search for enemies, perform high probability event predictions using accurate data, and computed at high-speed all the information necessary for shooting before transmitting them to the pilot.[3][9][13][17] As a result, the Holoscreen enabled ultra-precision shooting during Trans-Am.[2][8][9][13]
Haro is the name of small versatile robots with individual AIs that Celestial Being uses for support and maintenance of their ships and mobile suits.[18][38][39] One orange-colored Haro was placed on a circular dock on the right side of the Cherudim Gundam GNHW/R's cockpit to assist Lockon Stratos in operating the Gundam.[2][4][40][41] Besides controlling the GN Shield Bits and the GN Rifle Bits, the Haro also assisted with the fire control system, etc.[4][10][13][27]
A system for controlling a mobile weapon's remote-controlled weaponry. The Cherudim's GN Shield Bits and GN Rifle Bits were controlled by Haro[8][10],[13][27] but the AI-equipped robot often deploy these remote-controlled weapons only when instructed by Lockon.[10][29][30]
