The GN-008GNHW/3G Seravee Gundam GNHW/3G is a variant of the GN-008 Seravee Gundam introduced in Mobile Suit Gundam 00V.

Technology & Combat Characteristics[]

The GN-008GNHW/3G Seravee Gundam GNHW/3G was one of the GN Heavy Weapons (GNHW) plans created for the GN-008 Seravee Gundam in preparation for the Celestial Being's final battle against the Innovators.[1][2][3][4] The Seravee Gundam GNHW/3G was designed to extend the range of the Trial System, which was installed in the GN-009 Seraphim Gundam, enabling wide area suppression of enemy machines linked to the quantum processing system Veda.[1][2][3][4] To achieve this, the Seravee Gundam GNHW/3G was equipped with two unmanned mobile suits based on the Seraphim Gundam known as GN-00902 SEM, one on the left side and the other on the right side.[1][2][3][4] When deploying the Trial System, the Seravee Gundam GNHW/3G's backpack would detach and transform into Seraphim Gundam, and the two SEMs would also separate and change into their MS Form.[4][5] By using Seraphim Gundam and the two SEMs, the Trial System's range was increased to several hundreds of kilometers, effectively covering the entire battlefield.[2][3][4][5]

The backpack-less Seravee Gundam GNHW/3G and the two SEMs were remotely controlled from Seraphim Gundam via quantum communication, and the operating range of this remote-control system was theoretically infinite.[2][3][4][5] Although the true value of the two SEMs was in their ability to extend the range of the Trial System, they also served to enhance the Seravee Gundam GNHW/3G's offensive power.[4] With the two SEMs, the number of GN Cannons on the Seravee Gundam GNHW/3G was doubled to eight compared to the original Seravee Gundam,[2][3][4][5] while the number of GN Beam Sabers increased from six to ten.[3] However, the two SEMs were not directly attached to the Seravee Gundam GNHW/3G's main body, but to the backpack, meaning the Seraphim Gundam.[2][3][4][5] Additional parts were added to the Seraphim Gundam's shoulders for docking with the SEMs, and these were the only changes to the Seraphim itself.[2][3][4][5] Compared to the original Seravee Gundam, only minor changes were made to Seravee Gundam GNHW/3G's main body: a new color scheme to match that of the Seraphim Gundam and shortened side skirt armor.[4][5]

Development of the Seravee Gundam GNHW/3G was hastened as it was once deemed a trump card in the battle against the Innovators, but it was not deployed in the end due to several issues.[1][2][3][5] The two SEMs were difficult to manufacture, and with the Gundam's pilot Tieria Erde yet to regain his link with Veda, which was necessary for activating the Trial System, the SEMs were nothing more than a burden to the Gundam.[2][3][5][6] In fact, with the recapture of Veda from the Innovators predicted to occur only in the final phase of the battle, the Seravee Gundam GNHW/3G could be a burden to the other Gundams as well.[2][5] Furthermore, there were concerns that the SEMs might be shot down before Veda could be recaptured.[2][5] As a result, following a discussion between Tieria and the tactical forecaster, Sumeragi Lee Noriega, a decision was made to adopt the second plan, the GN-008GNHW/B Seravee Gundam GNHW/B.[1][2][4][5] The Seravee Gundam GNHW/3G thus became a phantom machine that was never used in a combat, a fate it shared with the GN-004/te-A02 Gundam Nadleeh Akwos.[4][7]

Armaments[]

  • GN Bazooka II
The same pair of handheld beam firearms as used by the original GN-008 Seravee Gundam.[3][5][6] While a single GN Bazooka II was more than sufficient to destroy enemy mobile suit, a higher level of firepower could be obtained by combining the two bazookas into the "Double Bazooka".[3][6][8] However, the Double Bazooka had a lower rate of fire and was harder to wield than the individual GN Bazooka II.[9][10] The Double Bazooka also had a maximum output mode called "Burst Mode", where the barrel splits apart and a ball of beam energy was launched at the enemy.[3][6][9][11] The GN Bazooka IIs could also be used together with the GN Cannons for a variety of powerful attacks.[3][6] Each GN Bazooka II featured a grip at the rear and another grip at the side, and it was typical held using the rear grip, with the side grip used during Double Bazooka Burst Mode.[3][6][11][12]
  • GN Cannon
The Seravee Gundam GNHW/3G retained the four large beam cannons of the original Seravee Gundam, and was armed with four more large beam cannons due to the two GN-00902 SEMs equipped on it, for a total of eight GN Cannons.[2][3][5][6] When required, the SEMs' side-facing GN Cannons could rotate to face the front.[2][5] All eight GN Cannons could also transform into arms and were equipped with a GN Beam Saber each.[3][4]
  • GN Beam Saber
A high power melee combat weapon that emits a beam blade made of compressed GN Particles when drawn.[3][6] The Seravee Gundam GNHW/3G was equipped with ten GN Beam Sabers, two stored in its forearms, and one in each GN Cannon.[3]
  • GN Beam Machine Gun
A small-sized firearm used by the two SEMs, the GN Beam Machine Gun was originally developed for the GN-009 Seraphim Gundam.[2][4][5] The GN Beam Machine Gun was stored on the right knee of both SEMs when not in use.[2][5]
  • GN Shield
A modified version of the GN-006 Cherudim Gundam's GN Shield Bit, it featured an added handle and was part of the two SEMs' armament.[2][3][4][5] The GN Shield retained the beam gun function of the GN Shield Bit, but the remote control function was omitted.[2][3][4][5] The GN Shield was stored on the left knee of both SEMs when not in use, and was handheld when the SEMs entered combat in their MS Form.[2][4][5]

Special Equipment & Features[]

The original GN-008 Seravee Gundam was able to generate around itself a spherical GN Field barrier made of compressed GN Particles for 360 degree protection against most physical and beam attacks.[3][6][13][14] With the exception of the two GN-00902 SEMs added to its backpack, the structure of the GN-008GNHW/3G Seravee Gundam GNHW/3G was mostly the same as the original Seravee Gundam,[4] so it should be able to generate a GN Field as well. While the GN Field had high defensive capabilities, it came at the cost of high particle consumption.[3][8][13][15] Additionally, it was not impenetrable, as shown when the GNMA-Y0001 Empruss easily penetrated the barrier of the original Seravee Gundam using its Egner Whip.[16] The original Seravee Gundam was able to improve the defensive performance of its GN Field by activating Face Burst Mode,[3][6] and this should also be possible for Seravee Gundam GNHW/3G.
  • Face Burst Mode
When the original Seravee Gundam operated at full power, parts of its backpack would unfold to expose a huge Gundam face, and this was known as "Face Burst Mode".[3][6][17] Like the GN Field, the Seravee Gundam GNHW/3G should be able to activate this mode due to its structural similarity to the original Seravee Gundam. During Face Burst Mode, the mobile suit's GN Particle emission was greatly increased, with copious amount of particles emitted from the pair of vents on the left and right side of the huge Gundam face.[9][17][18][19] Additionally, this mode enhanced the mobile suit's particle control capability as the two large, yellow antennas that unfolded as part of the huge Gundam face are particle control antennas, like the four antennas on the mobile suit's head.[3][6] Overall, Face Burst Mode had the effect of improving the GN Field's defensive performance, enabled stronger ranged beam attacks, enhanced mobility by maximizing the output of the two main thrusters at the bottom of the backpack, etc.[3][6][9][10]
A special system that when activated would fully release all of the compressed high-density GN Particles accumulated in the Gundam, enhancing its mobility and defensive capabilities as well as allowing it to perform at three times its normal output for a limited time.[15][20][21][22] Additionally, the entire Gundam appeared red and afterimages were generated when moving.[15][21] The original Seravee was able to activate Face Burst Mode while in Trans-Am Mode[23][24], and this should be possible for Seravee Gundam GNHW/3G as well. Unfortunately, the Trans-Am System was a double-edged sword, as once it ended, the Gundam's performance would drop as all its GN Particles were used up.[15][20][21][25] The Gundams deployed by the Celestial Being since AD 2312 were designed on the premise of using the Trans-Am System, thus, although a certain drop in performance remained unavoidable, the deterioration would not be that severe until they could not battle.[13][15][26] Furthermore, these Gundams were able to deactivate the Trans-Am System at any time.[13][27] Like the original Seravee Gundam, the Seravee Gundam GNHW/3G was not installed with its own GN Drive, thus it was likely that it could only activate Trans-Am System when the GN-009 Seraphim Gundam was docked to its back.[3][13][15][27]

History[]

Mobile Suit Gundam 00V Vol.020 GN-008GNHW/3G Seravee Gundam GNHW/3G[]

In the CBS-74 Ptolemaios 2, Sumeragi Lee Noriega called Tieria Erde to her room to discuss about the upcoming final battle with the Innovators. Sumeragi explained that she wanted more information as they currently knew too little about the Innovators, and there was also not much time left till the fight. It was imperative to predict what would happen during the final battle, and then informed their comrades in the factory who were in charge of weapons development. Tieria understood the situation, and did not look at all displeased. From Tieria's expression, Sumeragi could see that he had sorted out his feelings about being of the same kind as the Innovators.

According to the files provided by Ian Vashti, there were multiple enhancement plans for each Gundams. If the right equipment for the mission was not selected in advance, even a winnable battle could be jeopardized. Tieria muttered that it would be nice to have Veda with them now. He was aware that Sumeragi had always respected Veda's opinion when deciding on the mission plan in the past. Unexpectedly, a smiling Sumeragi said it was alright as she had someone more helpful than Veda. It took Tieria several seconds to realize she was referring to him. Tiera was glad that she trusted him, and at the same time, he felt he had broken free from Veda, which he used to view as a special existence.

Tieria advised Sumeragi against using the GNHW/3G equipment to enhance the GN-008 Seravee Gundam as it was useless without Veda. He added that even if they recaptured Veda, it was likely to be near the end of the battle, and for Seravee to be a burden to the other Gundams until then would be like putting the cart before the horse. Sumeragi nodded in agreement, prodding Tieria to carry on. He then recommended the GNHW/B, stating this equipment's brute force approach was the most suitable for the final battle. He reasoned that the Innovators looked down on humans, so they would definitely respond in kind if Celestial Being launched a frontal assault. In Tieria's view, this would give them a better chance of success.

Sumeragi smiled happily and complemented Tieria for his excellent views. Noting that her work was done, she took out an alcoholic drink and passionately offered some to Tieria, who politely declined. He then left her room and headed straight back to his own room. Alone, Tieria imagined using the Seravee Gundam GNHW/3G to its fullest. Linking with Veda and shutting down all enemy machines, this was an overwhelming power that could be described as dominating, and was also very alluring. However, Tieria did not find it as attractive as it used to be. Now, he wanted to fight alongside his trusted comrades with all his might, and that was the most important to him.
