Lafter Frankland (ラフタ・フランクランド Rafuta Frankurando?) is a character from the Mobile Suit Gundam IRON-BLOODED ORPHANS television series. She is a member of Turbines and the pilot of STH-14s Hyakuri.
Personality & Character[]
Lafter is usually quite cheerful, outgoing, and a little childish. As a pilot, she can display a playful but ruthless streak, toying with her enemies before finishing them off. Like most of the Turbine members, she acts as a mentor and big sister figure to the young members of Tekkadan.
Skills & Abilities[]
Lafter is an excellent pilot and can easily keep up with Tekkadan's pilots who have the Alaya-Vijnana system. She often battles alongside Azee Gurumin, and the pair are the first to go to the battle lines.
History[]
P.D. 315[]
As a child, Lafter worked in a warehouse doing menial labour. It was a workplace filled with miserable women who were abused by a man. She was picked up by Naze and Amida, joining their crew and becoming part of his harem. She would go on to become a mobile suit pilot for the Turbine's.
When the Turbines attack Tekkadan, she faces off against Akihiro and beats him. However, the two enemies reach an agreement and she backs off. She participates in simulation battles against some of the Tekkadan crew, especially Akihiro who she grows closer with. She supports Tekkadan in the battle against the Brewers with the rest of the Turbines, and tries to help Akihiro talk with his brother. She is also sent with them to Earth along with Azee and Eco, supporting the crew in the battles to come.

Lafter continues to support the Tekkadan along with the others. She helps against the Dawn Horizon Corps and helps stop the battle that Galan Mossa orchestrated. She is also present when Radice is being interrogated. She begins to realize her feelings for Akihiro, though she tells Azee not to tell Naze.
After a while she returns to the Turbines with Azee and Eco. After the Turbines are framed by Jasley, she is tasked with helping the fleeing ships escape from Iok's fleet while Naze holds them off. She is upset when Naze and Amida are killed, and is next seen comforting Azee at their funeral. She later meets with McMurdo along with Azee and Eco, with the trio talking about how nice he was. After being encouraged by the other two to join Tekkadan so she can be with Akihiro, she meets up with Akihiro and the pair go on a date. She acknowledges her feelings for him but decides to remain loyal to the memory of Naze and Amida as well as the Turbine crew, deciding to bury her feelings.
Soon after, she goes shopping with Azee. She sees a shop selling toy bears after Azee goes back to a previous store and goes inside. While she marvels at a bear that reminds her of Akihiro, she is shot and killed by one of Jasley's men. Tekkadan and Akihiro in particular are enraged at the news, cutting off ties with Teiwaz and massacring Jasley's fleet. Jasley himself is killed by Mikazuki and Tekkadan's revenge for the fallen Turbine members is complete.

Akihiro Altland[]
After spending some time with Tekkadan, Lafter had grown close to Akihiro. During Akihiro's battle with Galan Mossa, Lafter arrived on her Shiden and was concerned for Akihiro's safety when the Galan's Geirail self-destructed. After seeing Akihiro saddened by Aston's death, she is also seen to be greatly bothered. Eventually Lafter, with the help of Azee, is able to realize that she has fallen in love with Akihiro. However, due to her relationship with Naze, she hasn't decided how to proceed.
After Naze's death, Lafter eventually went on a date with the oblivious Akihiro. While she enjoyed her time with him, she eventually revealed that she chose to remain with Turbines instead of revealing her love for Akihiro. Unfortunately, this proved fatal as Lafter was murdered soon afterward which left her comrades devastated.
Azee Gurumin[]
Lafter shares a close and friendly relationship with Azee in all things including battle where they often fight together to completely overwhelm their foes. Due to their close relationship, they are often seen together and confide in each other. Eventually when Lafter begins to feel troubled by her growing feelings for Akihiro, Azee is able to immediately realize what was happening and managed to get Lafter to admit her feelings. Due to their shared relationship with Naze, Azee agreed to keep Lafter's secret until Lafter was ready to make a decision.
After Naze's death, Azee pushed Lafter to join Tekkadan and to be with Akihiro. While Lafter did go on a date with Akihiro, she ultimately chose to remain with the Turbines which Azee respected. However, while the pair were shopping together before heading out, Azee left to get something she forgot. While Lafter was alone, she was murdered and Azee was left bedridden due to her grief and blaming herself for leaving Lafter alone.
Naze Turbine[]
Naze is Lafter's love interest. Lafter was grateful to Naze for taking her in and fell in love with him, eventually becoming part of his harem. Lafter was very loyal to Naze, following his orders faithfully. She was completely devastated when she was notified of his death, breaking down into tears.

- Lafter Frankland is voiced by Yōko Hikasa (日笠陽子 Hikasa Yōko?), who also voices Lea Heisenberg in Gundam Breaker 2.
- Her name comes from Frankland of Lafter Hall, from the Sherlock Holmes novel The Hound of the Baskervilles.
- Lafter shares the same Japanese and English voice actors as Mio Akiyama, a character from the anime series K-On!.
