The GNR-010 0 Raiser is a support unit for the GN-0000 00 Gundam introduced in the second season of Mobile Suit Gundam 00, and is piloted by Saji Crossroad.
Technology & Combat Characteristics[]
Manufactured in the secret factory at Lagrange 3, the GNR-010 0 Raiser served as a dedicated support machine for the GN-0000 00 Gundam and helped compensate for the numerical disadvantage faced by the Celestial Being against the overwhelming numbers of the Earth Sphere Federation Forces.[1][2][3][4] Developed based on the GNR-001E/D GN Arms Type-E/D[5][6], the 0 Raiser was meant to fight together with and provide a wide range of support functions for the 00, including reconnaissance, offensive and defensive fire support, etc.[1][3][4][7] As all five original GN Drives were used in the Gundams, the 0 Raiser was equipped with a large GN Condenser as its power source.[1][4][7][8] When it runs out of power, it could dock with 00 to replenish its GN Particles, and was able to fight even in this docked state.[1][3][4][9] Due to issues with the 00, the O Raiser was deployed in a way that was significantly different from what was originally envisioned.[1][3][9][10]
With 00 unable to stabilize its GN Drive-based Twin Drive System by itself, Celestial Being engineers turned to the 0 Raiser for a solution.[2][4][11][12] According to one source, the 0 Raiser was installed with a GN Drive control system to ensure a stable supply of GN Particles from the 00's two GN Drives when it docked with the Gundam, and this system was found to be able to stabilize the Twin Drive System.[9] Another source claimed that the support machine's high performance particle control system was diverted to stabilize the Twin Drive System.[4] It is currently unclear if these two systems are one and the same, different parts of a bigger system, or completely different systems. Regardless, 0 Raiser was able to help control and stabilize the Twin Drive System when docked with 00, and this also made it possible to activate safely and fully the Gundam's Trans-Am System.[2][4][9][13] Additionally, 0 Raiser could also amplify the Trans-Am System.[2][4][14] The mobile suit formed from the combination of the 0 Raiser and 00 is known as "GN-0000+GNR-010 00 Raiser", and its performance surpassed that of all previous Gundams.[3][11][15][16]
Since 0 Raiser became necessary for the 00 to display its true power, the support machine mainly operated as a part of the 00 Raiser.[7][9][17][18] Furthermore, with Saji Crossroad, a non-combatant, accidentally becoming its pilot, the 0 Raiser was more meaningful for the stable operation of the Twin Drive System than its original purpose as an independent combat support machine.[3][4][9][10] The 0 Raiser consisted of three components: a central block that included the nose and tail unit, and a pair of side binders on the left and right.[3][4][10] When docking with 00, the 0 Raiser's tail unit would first fold under the central block to expose a joint part for connecting to 00's backpack.[4][15][17][18] Guide lasers emitted from the backpack and back of 00's head then facilitated the docking.[15][17][19][20] Finally, the 0 Raiser's left and right side binders attached to the 00's GN Drives and separate from the central block.[4][15][17][18] After 00 Raiser is formed, the Raiser System installed in the 0 Raiser can be activated to enable the mobile suit to use the powerful "Raiser Sword" attack in Trans-Am Mode.[21][22][23] The Raiser System also seemed to be related to the 00 Raiser's Trans-Am Burst System as these two systems have almost identical activation screen.[24]
The canopy-like section of the 0 Raiser's nose unit contained a composite sensor unit with sensing capabilities superior to the sensors normally found in a mobile suit.[3][4][7][10] This sensor system enabled 0 Raiser to search for enemy units, as well as quickly gather, analyze, and transmit battlefield information to the 00.[3][10][17] It remained usable even when 0 Raiser is a part of the 00 Raiser.[17] The cockpit of the 0 Raiser is located at the center of the machine and has a top-opening hatch.[3][10][18][20] Besides the pilot who operates the main controls, the cockpit also has a dock for the AI-equipped robot Haro.[3][10][15][25] The Haro was often used for activating the docking sequence of 0 Raiser to the 00[15][20][21][22], and this robot also provided crucial support that enabled the pilot to smoothly and fully operate the machine's composite sensor unit and various systems.[3][4][10] When docked with 00, the cockpit seat could rotate 180 degrees so that the pilot faces the same direction as the Gundam.[17][18] Due to 0 Raiser being an essential part of 00 Raiser, damage to the support machine's cockpit system also negatively affected the operation of the mobile suit.[20]
Installed in the center of the 0 Raiser's tail unit is the main propulsion nozzle, which generates thrust by emitting GN Particles sourced from the GN Condensers built into the support machine's body.[3][10] Due to the movable structure of the tail unit, this propulsion nozzle could be used for reverse braking and other maneuvers that normal fighter crafts are incapable of.[3][10] Other thruster locations included at the bottom of the central block, and in the back of the side binders.[3][10][15] The side binders' thrusters are also called side thrusters, and they could swing to the left or right side when the 0 Raiser is turning as the rear section of the binders are moveable.[3][10] Another feature of the side binders is the blue-colored fin-like structure at the top and bottom which could be deployed as large clavicle antennas when in 00 Raiser form, significantly increasing the mobile suit's GN Particle control ability.[3][10][13] Additionally, the side binders doubled as shields, and were also equipped with multiple GN Micro Missiles and the 0 Raiser's main armament - the GN Beam Machine Guns.[3][4][10][17] The final standard armament of the 0 Raiser is the rapid-fire GN Vulcans built into the left and right side of the machine's central block.[3][4][10]
As the 0 Raiser was originally intended for support missions that cannot be handled by a Gundam, it was equipped with experimental systems, and could mount a wide variety of optional armament and equipment.[3][9][10] One such experimental system is a multi-purpose GN Condenser that could supply GN Particles to other machines, and it is located between the composite sensor unit and the cockpit, covered by a hatch.[9] This same hatch is also used for maintenance, and has a monitor on the inside that shows the status of the support machine.[9] Among the many optional armament and equipment available to the 0 Raiser are anti-ship GN Missile A/S, particle disruption missiles, and external GN Condensers that extended the machine's operating time.[7][9] Furthermore, the 0 Raiser could use some of the armaments equipped by a Gundam, such as the GN Hand Missile Unit and GN Sword III.[7][9] The hardpoints for mounting all these optional armaments and equipment were installed in various parts of the 0 Raiser, such as the side binders, and they have retractable pylons that are exposed only when in use.[3][9][10]
Even though the 0 Raiser and 00 could dock in the mothership, the CBS-74 Ptolemaios 2, and launched directly as 00 Raiser[26], the two machines often launched separately and docked into the 00 Raiser afterwards.[19][21][22][26] There was a plan to enhance the 0 Raiser by equipping it with the "GN021XN XN Unit" upgrade parts.[4][27][28][29] The resulting machine was called "GNR-010/XN XN Raiser" and it featured improved combat power and support capabilities.[4][27][28][29] However, since XN Raiser was meant for independent combat support operations, its design was dropped when the main purpose of the 0 Raiser was changed to stabilizing the 00's Twin Drive System.[4][27][28] After the final battle against the Innovators, the 0 Raiser was repaired and featured a differently colored canopy-like part.[30][31][32][33] Internally, a change said to be made was that the support machine was now solely operated by the Haro.[23] The repaired 0 Raiser can dock with the similarly repaired 00 to form the GN-0000RE+GNR-010 00 Raiser GN Condenser Type.[30][34]
Armaments[]
- GN Beam Machine Gun
- A beam gun that used GN Particles, one was installed on the inner side of each side binder.[3][4][10][17] The 0 Raiser has two GN Beam Machine Guns in total and they served as its main weapon.[3][4][10][17] They have a higher rate of fire than normal beam rifles, and although their firepower is slightly weaker, they still have sufficient destructive power for mobile suit battles.[3][10] The same type of weapon was also used by GN-003 Gundam Kyrios and GN-007 Arios Gundam.[3][10] Because this weapon consumed a large amount of particles, there is a limit to its use as the 0 Raiser was not equipped with a GN Drive.[3][10] However, as the 0 Raiser's pilot, Saji Crossroad, rarely participate actively in combat, the usage frequency of the GN Beam Machine Guns were low, thus their particle consumption was not a big issue.[3][10] The pair of GN Beam Machine Guns remained usable after 0 Raiser docked with the GN-0000 00 Gundam.[3][4][10][35]
- GN Micro Missile
- Upon hitting the target, the GN Micro Missiles release GN Particles to destroy the target from within.[3][10] Fired from four ports on the outer side of each side binder, these missiles could be used for intercepting enemy mobile suits and are also suitable for destroying large targets, such as ships.[3][4][17][24] Compared to the GN Missiles used by the Gundams, these GN Micro Missiles are smaller, enabling more of them to be carried within the limited internal space of the 0 Raiser.[3][10] Furthermore, due to improvement in particle compression technology, these missiles' smaller size did not lead to a drop in power.[3][10] Since the GN Micro Missiles are guided missiles, they are the easiest weapon for Saji, who is unfamiliar with combat.[3][10][17] The GN Micro Missiles can be fired even after the 0 Raiser docked with 00.[3][4][10][24]
- GN Vulcan
- Four GN Vulcans were installed in the 0 Raiser's central block, two on each side, close to where the side binders are attached.[3][4][10][17] A similar weapon was built into the forearms of the GN-001 Gundam Exia.[3][10] The GN Vulcans are for aerial combat with enemy aircrafts, intercepting missiles, etc.[3][10][17] Additionally, due to their high rapid-fire capability but low firepower, they are mainly used for restricting enemy movement when battling GN Drive Tau-equipped mobile suits, and cannot be expected to destroy them.[3][10][17] Therefore, they are rarely used for aggressive attacks.[3][10] They can also be used to keep the enemy in check when the 0 Raiser is docking with 00, or as a barrage to defend against incoming attacks.[3][10] After the 0 Raiser docked with 00, the GN Vulcans are not used as their firing direction is fixed downwards.[3][10]
- GN Shield
- A pair of GN Shields originally used by the 00 can optionally be attached to the hardpoints on the 0 Raiser's side binders, one shield per binder, to increase the support machine's defensive power.[3][7][10] Made of E-Carbon and with a GN Field coating on their surface, the GN Shields could block attacks from most conventional weaponry.[4][7][10][36]
- GN Hand Missile Unit
- An optional large missile launcher, this is the same weapon as used by the Gundams such as Kyrios.[9][37][38] The 0 Raiser can equip two to three GN Hand Missile Units using the hardpoints on its body, with two being the norm.[9] Consisting of three triple launch tubes, each GN Hand Missile Unit carries nine missiles in total and it is said that the weapon can be loaded with GN Missiles as well as conventional explosive warheads.[37][39][40]
- GN Sword III
- Originally equipped by the GN-0000+GNR-010 00 Raiser, the GN Sword III can optionally be attached to one of the hardpoints on the 0 Raiser's body for use by the support machine.[7][9] By folding its blade, which has improved cutting power and sharpness, the GN Sword III can transform from GN Sword Mode into GN Rifle Mode.[4][7][36][41] Besides functioning as a triple barreled beam rifle, the GN Rifle Mode can combine the beams from the three barrels into a single, huge beam, and has other shooting modes such as rapid-fire mode and diffused beam mode.[4][7][36][41]
- GN Missile A/S
- Optional large anti-ship missile, it is also known as "Large GN Missile A/S Type".[7][9] When the missile hits the target, its tip slides to release GN Particles, destroying the target from the inside.[9] The 0 Raiser has been shown to equip eight GN Missile A/S using the hardpoints on its body.[9]
- Particle Disruption Missile
- An optional missile capable of disrupting GN Particles within a certain area, causing the use of beam weaponry, etc., to be restricted in that area.[7][9] The 0 Raiser has been shown to equip two Particle Disruption Missiles using the hardpoints on its body.[9]
Special Equipment & Features[]
- Dock for Haro
- Haro is the name of small versatile robots with individual AIs that Celestial Being uses for support and maintenance of their ships and mobile suits.[25][42][43] A Haro can be placed on a circular dock on the right side of the 0 Raiser's cockpit to provide the pilot with crucial support for operating the various systems of the support machine smoothly and fully.[3][4][10][15] The robot was also used for activating the docking sequence of the 0 Raiser to the GN-0000 00 Gundam[15][20][21][22], and when required, it could serve as a make-shift security measure to foil the hijacking of the support machine.[20] The red-colored Haro that assisted Saji Crossroad in controlling the 0 Raiser was first given to him as a robot companion when he came under the protection of the Celestial Being.[44][45]
- Raiser System
- A system installed in the 0 Raiser that can be activated after the support machine docked with 00 to form the GN-0000+GNR-010 00 Raiser.[21][22] The Raiser System enabled 00 Raiser to release all its compressed GN Particles in a single, powerful "Raiser Sword" attack during Trans-Am Mode.[21][22][23] When the cockpit unit of the 0 Raiser is damaged and replaced with a new one, the Raiser System has to be re-tuned.[20] There seemed to be a link between the Raiser System and the 00 Raiser's Trans-Am Burst System, as the sub monitor in 00's cockpit shows a display almost identical to that of the Raiser System's when the Trans-Am Burst is activated.[24] Unlike Raiser Sword, this second use of the Raiser System does not require the system to be manually activated by the 0 Raiser's pilot.[21][22][24] The link between the Raiser System and the Trans Am Burst is more explicit in the GN-0000RE+GNR-010 00 Raiser GN Condenser Type, where the Raiser System is activated just before the activation of Trans-Am Burst.[30]
- GN Condenser
- An external GN Particle storage tank that extends the 0 Raiser's operating time, it is equipped when the support machine is deployed for long distance reconnaissance missions, or when using its beam weaponry for long-range attacks.[9] This GN Condenser is purged once the stored particles within are all consumed.[9] The 0 Raiser has been shown to equip two such GN Condensers using the hardpoints on its body.[9]
