The GF13-001NHII Master Gundam is a mobile fighter introduced in the anime Mobile Fighter G Gundam.

Technology & Combat Characteristics[]

A state-of-the-art mobile fighter made by Neo Hong Kong, and a developmental improvement of the Kowloon Gundam. Its body is made up of DG cells, allowing it to disguise itself as the Kowloon Gundam. Although its body is made up of DG cells, it is completely controlled by Master Asia's strong mental power, so it does not self-propagate or self-evolve, and uses its abilities only for self-regeneration. This machine has strong characteristics as a dedicated fighting machine developed from the Kowloon Gundam, and its flexible joint structure and thrusters allow it to move in a variety of ways, reproducing many of the techniques of Master Asia. It is a member of the Devil Gundam Legion, and is treated as the leader of the Four Heavenly Kings subgroup that consisted of four Gundams.

Armaments[]

  • Master Cloth
A cloth-like weapon generated by a beam. Through the Mobile Trace System, the weapon is controlled using Master Asia's waist cloth in the cockpit. In addition to cutting targets like a beam saber, it can also entangle enemy machines.
  • Near Crusher
The telescopic forearm of the Master Gundam extends from the tip of the elbow, and its hand takes on the form of a hand blade to strike the enemy. Using the sharp fingertips, the Near Crusher is capable of penetrating enemy armor. The forearm retracts after use.
  • Distant Crusher
The entire forearm is launched from the tip of the elbow using a beam wire, enabling the hand blade to strike enemies at a distance. After hitting its target, the forearm is retrieved and reconnected by pulling back the beam wire.
  • Darkness Shot
A small beam cannon with five emitters built into the bottom of the left and right palms.
  • Wing Shield
A pair of Wing Shields are equipped on the back. In Normal Mode, they are deployed like a cloak to cover the entire body of the Master Gundam, acting as a shield to block enemy attacks. In Attack Mode, they are folded on the back, and can function as wings to enable flight. They also function as stabilizers in Attack Mode, and are thus also called "Large Stabilizers".

Special Equipment & Features[]

  • Mobile Trace System
A piloting system for controlling mobile fighters. Normally, a pilot suit with nanomachines woven into it called a fighting suit is worn, but Master Asia wears normal clothes with fighting suit functions built in, according to his own preference. This is a technology used in the early Gundam Fights, and even though it is an early technology, it perfectly traces the master's movements. In the manga version, Master Asia wears a fighting suit that mimics his own attire.

Special Attacks[]

  • Darkness Finger
A special move with a power that surpasses the Shining Gundam's "Shining Finger" and is comparable to God Gundam's "Erupting God Finger". It can be transformed into a palm strike after stabbing an opponent with a ki-infused hand, or into an attack that crushes the opponent in its grip. It can also be used in "Normal Mode" by deploying part of the wing shield.
  • Darkness Finger Shot
A technique that uses the Darkness Finger to unleash a blast of energy at the opponent.
  • Choukyuu Haou Den'eidan (超級覇王電影弾 Super Class Supreme King Electric Shadow Bullet?)
The Master Gundam spins in a horizontal whirlwind as it flies along, allowing it to clear whole fields of enemies.
  • Juuniou Houpai Daishahei + Kizan Shoukoujin (十二王方牌大車併 + 帰山笑紅塵 Twelve Kings Tile - Great Wheel Combination + Return to the Mountains and Smile to the Mortal World)?)
With its arms in the air, the suit draws the 7 characters of "十二王方牌大車" in a circular wheel-like pattern using the Siddham script. These characters transform into miniature Master Gundams, and are launched and adhered at key points on their opponent's body. Via the use of the technique "Kizan Shoukoujin", all the miniatures then return to the main body, to suppress further use of energy.
  • Suibu Saikenkouko Deadly Wave (酔舞・再現江湖デッドリーウェイブ Drunken Dance, Reappearing in the Scene, the Deadly Wave?)
The Master Gundam launches a furious wave of punches, leaving afterimages as it attacks, and then the opponent explodes as Master Gundam makes a kicking pose along with the shout of "爆発!" ("Bakuhatsu", literally "Explode!").
  • Sekiha Tenkyouken (石破天驚拳 Stone-Crushing Heaven-Shaking Punch?)
The strongest and last technique of the school of the "Undefeated of the East". This technique borrows the power of nature and launches it as a qigong projectile in the form of a fist.

History[]

The Master Gundam first appears in the old Shinjuku district of Tokyo during the Survival Eleven in the 13th Gundam Fight. After that, it mimics the Kowloon Gundam and Master Asia approaches Domon Kasshu to bring him in, but Rain Mikamura interferes and reveals its true nature. In the ensuing battle, Master Asia would soundly defeat his former student and the Shining Gundam. When Domon retreated to the Guiana Highlands to further his training, Master Asia secretly followed with his Master Gundam in tow.

At the end of Domon's training, the two Gundam fighters faced each other once again. Though Master Asia initially overpowered the Shining Gundam, the battle would end in the destruction of the Master Gundam at the hands of Hyper Mode God Gundam. However, the Master Gundam possessed self-regeneration capabilities thanks to the Devil Gundam, and soon reappeared in Neo Hong Kong for the finals. According to Gundam Fight procedures, the Gundam Fighter representing Neo Hong Kong, Master Asia, switched from the Kowloon Gundam to this machine. Because Master Asia was the previous Gundam Fight champion, he and the Master Gundam would not participate in the tournament until the final round.

In the final battle of the Gundam Fight, it was revealed that the Master Gundam was capable of entering a golden Hyper Mode of its own, similar to the Gundams of the Shuffle Alliance. Yet, with Domon's training finally complete and Master Asia's health declining, the Master Gundam was finally outmatched. After a long struggle, the Master Gundam faltered, and was destroyed by the God Gundam. What remained of the Master Gundam was burned alongside Master Asia's body.

Sometime later, when the Devil Gundam seized control of the Neo Japan colony, the upper body of the Master Gundam was used as a component of the Grand Master Gundam. The Grand Master Gundam was defeated by the combined might of the Shuffle Alliance.

Variants[]

  • Master Gundam Master Chinan Custom
Appearing in the finale of Gundam Build Fighters, it is a customized Gunpla built and operated by Master Chinan. The shoulder armor, side skirt armor and knee armor are painted gold. Its signature attacks included the Darkness Finger, Darkness Finger Shot, and the "Chinan Kick", a flying kick covered with Plavsky Particles. The "Chinan Kick" can be used in combination with the tornado caused by the MS-07R-35 Gouf R35's high-speed rotation to deliver a more destructive attack.
  • Master Gundam (Replica ver.)
In Super Robot Wars Reversal, a fully revived Master Asia will gain a man-made version of the Master Gundam to join the other heroes should players rescue him and fully trigger the Shin Getter Robo vs. Neo Getter Robo's God Getter event. As it was man-made and not built with DG cells, Rain Mikamura warns him that it is not as strong as the original Master Gundam, though Master Asia tells her its the skill of its pilot that draws out its power, not what it's made of.

Notes & Trivia[]

  • Master Asia, the pilot of Master Gundam, whose alias 東方不敗 (Undefeated of the East), is a direct reference to a eponymous character from Swordsman II (Better known as 笑傲江湖II: 東方不敗 in Hong Kong), a 1992 Hong Kong movie written and produced by Tsui Hark based on the wuxia novel The Smiling, Proud Wanderer written by famous writer Louis Cha.
  • All the Heavenly Kings in G Gundam were named after movies directed / produced by Tsui Hark except Gundam Heaven's Sword, which was named after a wuxia movie directed by Wong Jing.
  • Master Asia's outfit is a reference to Wong Fei-hung's outfit in Tsui Hark's Wong Fei Hung movie series.
  • The ultimate attack "Choukyuu Haou Den'eidan (超級霸王電影彈 Super Conquering King Movie Bomb?)" is a reference to Yasuhiro Imagawa's (Mobile Fighter G Gundam's director) fondness for Hong Kong 80-90' martial art movies.
  • The ultimate attack "Sekiha Tenkyoken (石破天驚拳 Stone-Crushing Heaven-Shaking Punch?)" is a reference to a Chinese word 石破天驚, meaning something so special and astounding that it shatters the Earth and amazed the heaven itself.
  • The Four Heavenly Kings' appearance resemble The Four Guardian Kings of Ming Cult from The Heaven Sword and Dragon Saber, a wuxia novel by Jin Yong. The Four Guardian Kings assist the leader in overseeing the cult's activities. The bat-like appearance of the Master Gundam resemble Wei Yixiao (韋一笑; Wéi Yīxiào), nicknamed "Green Winged Bat King" (青翼蝠王; qīngyì fúwáng), unmatched in his qinggong prowess in the jianghu. He once accidentally infected himself with an icy venom while practising the skill 'Icy Palm'. Since then, he has to routinely consume the warm blood of living creatures (including humans) to keep the freezing poison in his body under control. Zhang Wuji cures him later by using the Nine Yang Divine Skill to purge the venom from his body.
  • In the first opening, Master Gundam was animated with a traditional yellow v-fin and red on the shoulder spikes, abdomen, knees, and toes.
