Mobile Suit Gundam: The Return of Zeon is a video game developed by Family Soft and released in 1993 for the PC-98.
Gameplay[]
Part of the loose "Operations" Series (Mobile Suit Gundam: Advanced Operation, Mobile Suit Gundam: A Year of War, Desert Operation, Classic Operation and Stardust Operation) Players take a top down perspective of their units which they can commando individually. Each level begins with an opening animation cinematic and "next time!" closing cinematic to give the game an anime or OVA like feel. Being a sequel to Advanced Operation players are tasked with playing as the (Haman's) Neo Zeon Remnants whereas they played as part of the federation in the previous title.
Plot[]
After the death of Vice Commander Haman Karn, Zeon control was thrown into chaos. Supplies, ammunition and weaponry to the forces remaining on Earth were cut off and they were forced into difficult battles on all fronts. The year is Universal Century 0090. Zeon Forces from around the world have decided to withdraw. This is the story of their heroic battle to retreat from Earth and back to space where they hope to continue the war.

Trivia[]
- Despite sharing many core features and some returning units from other Operations titles, Return of Zeon is titled with a standalone name like an OVA. This would only be done one more time in the series with 'A Year of War'
- Makoto Kobayashi, designer of The O, is credited in this game. His contribution is largely seen in the detailed, worn-looking depiction of mobile suits in the game’s cutscenes as well as new mobile suit variations entirely unique to the game, he would succeed Kazuhisa Kondo who contributed to Advanced Operation.
- This game is a sequel to the events of Mobile Suit Gundam: Advanced Operation though the II Nido (the player ship in that game) returns only in name and serves as a boss in this game.
- This game seems to lead directly into Mobile Suit Gundam: The Revival of Zeon as multiple Mobile Suits from it feature in this game, in addition, the entire plot surrounds regrouping with Char's Neo Zeon who, in that manga continuity, lead a fierce campaign against the Earth Federation on Earth before heading to space and continue the fight.
