The Le Creuset Team is an elite team from ZAFT introduced in the anime Mobile Suit Gundam SEED.
Overview[]
Their main goal was to destroy the Archangel and to capture the GAT-X105 Strike Gundam.
History[]
Heliopolis: Mixed Opinions[]
Although ZAFT's informant had assured that Orb Union was developing mobile suits for the Earth Alliance, ZAFT would not give the go-ahead for the mission until it had been confirmed or proven true. Rau Le Creuset decided on his own, after receiving a photo of the Strike, that his team would go without permission from the PLANT Supreme Council because he "has a sixth sense about these things".
The pilots of the Le Creuset Team were divided on whether to infiltrate the colony as some weren't convinced Earth Alliance weapons were really being held on the neutral Orb colony, until after the photographic evidence was shown to them. Yzak called it a "fool's errand" before the raid (Gundam SEED Re:); which Dearka agreed, followed up with saying "it's going to be their first actual battle experience". Nicol, who was rather bold in his retort, said "Dearka! Yzak! What are you two saying? This isn't a fool's errand: we wouldn't be doing this if it was a waste of time," and turned to Athrun, who agreed. However, it can be assumed by his reactions in two manga representations of this event that Athrun was slightly distracted by something troubling. Rusty thought it was a bit
strange to be doing a raid on a neutral colony, but Yzak retorted, pointing out that "if it were a neutral colony, they wouldn't be manufacturing weapons for the Earth forces". After Yzak retorts, he lightened the tension by laughing and sarcastically ranting "Well... for ZAFT', as they say".
G-Weapon Robbery[]
On the neutral space colony of Heliopolis, Morgenroete, Orb's military manufacturing company, secretly develops five mobile suits for the Earth Alliance to better equalize the battle strength with ZAFT's. ZAFT's reaction to this
possible threat is to send the Le Creuset Team to carry out the mission. The team's goal was to capture the mobile suits and retreat as soon as possible to reduce the possibility of damage to the colony or the five mobile suits. Unfortunately for the Le Creuset Team and ZAFT, only four machines were successfully stolen because ZAFT pilot Rusty Mackenzie was killed, hence they were short of one pilot. Even worse for ZAFT, Heliopolis was subsequently destroyed due to the severe damage from the combat done within it.[1][2][3]
Kira (as a civilian) in the GAT-X105 Strike Gundam Gundam while protecting the Archangel, fought and killed Miguel, Matthew, and Olor, and leaving his battle with Athrun in the stolen GAT-X303 Aegis Gundam due to the colony's collapse.
Later on, the PLANT Supreme Council calls Le Creuset back to PLANT for a full report on the serious political problems the destruction of Heliopolis had brought forth between the Earth Alliance and ZAFT. Athrun was also ordered to return by Le Creuset to better explain the course of events, the information gained by capturing the 4 mobile suits and to indirectly and secretly deal with the problem of the Strike's pilot being a former friend of Athrun's.
Pursuit of the Archangel[]
Since he had piloted a top-secret weapon, Kira and his friends were forced to embark on the Earth Alliance warship Archangel and later choose to enlist in their military. Kira engaged Athrun in battle several times. Athrun was in turmoil over having to fight his friend and attempted to convince Kira to join ZAFT, since Kira was a Coordinator, telling him it didn't make sense for him to be fighting against the PLANTs. His words did affect Kira, but still, his friend refused to cross over (along with the Strike Gundam) to ZAFT.[4][5]
During a handful of missions, the Laconi and Porto teams, including the Laurasia-class Ziegler, came under their command, but soon after, the Gamow commanded by Zelman was sunk during the Battle of Orbit,[6] and when the engagement shifted to Earth, the "Zala Team" commanded by Athrun was formed as a squadron, and the first Vosgulov-class submarine Vosgulov was assigned to them.[7] After Yzak was left behind and almost everyone was either MIA or KIA, he went on to fight in Operation Spitbreak and other battles with Le Creuset,[8][9][10] and when the main battlefield returned to space, two Nazca-class ships, the Hoisinger and the Helderton, along with Shiho Hahnenfuss and Isaac Mau, were added to the fleet.[11]
The new team once again stood in front of the Archangel, but the Vesalius sank during the Battle of Mendel.[12] Not long after that, Patrick Zala's organizational structure was put in place, and Le Creuset, who had a close relationship with the team, was transferred to a special task force under his direct control, resulting in the dissolution of the team, which was later succeeded by the Joule Team.[13]
