Flanagan Boone (フラナガン・ブーン Furanagan Būn?) is a character from the Mobile Suit Gundam television series and its second compilation movie, Mobile Suit Gundam II: Soldiers of Sorrow. He is also the focal character of the manga Mobile Suit Gundam: The battle tales of Flanagan Boone.

History[]

Flanagan Boone was born on Earth, near Belfast, but immigrated to space at the age of three, where his family settled in Side 3. His father was a fisherman, and they continued to fish together recreationally in the waterways of their colony, despite their lack of fish to actually catch.

After the outbreak of the war, Flanagan Boone becomes a Principality of Zeon commander, and was sent to California Base, where he was placed in command of the "Naga III" submarine squad. He was personally given a MS-06M Zaku Marine Type by Garma Zabi, whom Boone had come to greatly admire. Garma directed their transfer to the Atlantic, requesting they assist him in operating from New York, however, before their transfer was complete, Garma was killed-in-action against the Federation's "Trojan Horse." Boone swore vengeance against the Federation's "White Devil", but the base's forces were largely depleted. Boone accompanied a fleet of three Gaws in pursuit of the Trojan Horse, and demanded to sortie from the Gaw in his Zaku Marine Type, however, the Gaw's wing was bisected by the Gundam's beam javelin before he could launch, causing Boone's Zaku Marine Type to fall to the ground with the wing, but also inadvertently saving his life. Delusional after the crash, Boone imagined the Gundam as a horror from the deep, and witnessed the death of Icelina Eschonbach.

Despite the plummet, his Zaku Marine Type remained operational, but Boone had to walk it all the way back to base, which took two days, during which the state funeral for Garma Zabi was held. Boone found Char Aznable at base upon his arrival, who had been dismissed following the death of Garma. Suspicious of Char's actions, Boone proposed a mock battle against Char to test him, but was defeated. Without new orders and no clear chain of command, morale in the submarine forces deteriorated. Boone sought instruction from M'Quve, who proposed to fold them into the Mad Angler Team.

Mobile Suit Gundam[]

Boone's fleet was active near the Federation's Belfast, Ireland base. When the White Base arrives in Belfast, Boone takes the opportunity to launch an attack on it. During the second such attack, he sends Miharu Ratokie aboard as a spy, to provide information on where it is headed. Boone follows the White Base across the Atlantic Ocean and successfully infiltrates it using a stolen civilian plane so that he can communicate with Miharu, who tells him that White Base is headed to South America, which Boone reports to Char Aznable.

From Char, Boone received permission to pilot the MAM-07 Grublo mobile armor in an attack on the White Base, intending to avenge the death of his men that had fallen to the White Base and the RX-78-2 Gundam. Boone launches an attack on White Base and does battle with the Gundam underwater. While the Grublo has the advantage at first and manages to grab the Gundam's leg with one of its claws, the Gundam is able to escape its grasp and then attacks the Grublo's cockpit with one of its beam sabers, killing Boone.

In the second Mobile Suit Gundam compilation movie, Boone was instead killed by a missile launched from a Gunperry.
