The Flying armor is a machine based on the MSZ-006 Zeta Gundam's Wave Rider mode and was expressly manufactured for use by the RX-178 Gundam Mk-II. Although not intended for space use, the Flying Armor could be utilized as a re-entry vehicle for the Mk II. Moreover, the Flying Armor also gave the Mk II the ability to hover over water and land, as well as entertain extended atmospheric flight.
The Flying Armor was designed so that the Mk II could lock its feet into place at the top of the rear section. The nose section contained two similar sections that contained gripping handles so that the Mk II would lock into the Flying Armor with all four limbs if absolutely necessary. The surface area of the Flying Armor was enough to cover the entire Gundam Mk II during re-entry, preventing any damage to the mobile suit. During Earth-engagements, the Flying Armor could serve as a standing platform for the Mk II, similar to the Dodai series of bombers during the One Year War.
