The GAT-SO2R N Dagger N is a limited production special operations stealth mobile suit introduced in Mobile Suit Gundam SEED Destiny MSV and featured in the manga Gundam SEED Destiny Astray.

Technology & Combat Characteristics[]

A variant of the GAT-01A1 Dagger, the N Dagger N was created for special operations and irregular warfare during peacetime, such as the destruction of enemy defenses and facilities behind the line, kidnapping, and assassination of VIPs, etc. The 'SO' in its model number stood for "Special Operations". The biggest feature of the N Dagger N was its Mirage Colloid Stealth System, first used on the GAT-X207 Blitz Gundam. Though the Blitz was stolen by ZAFT immediately after its completion, there existed multiple experimental units in addition to the stolen unit, allowing the OMNI Enforcer to obtain sufficient data. As a result, the N Dagger N's structure heavily resembled that of the Blitz.[1]

Since the Mirage Colloid's electrical field control required a large amount of power, the N Dagger N was equipped with a Neutron Jammer Canceller and powered by a nuclear fission reactor. As such, its operational time while using Mirage Colloid was significantly extended compared to the Blitz, practically to an unlimited extent. This was a significant advantage for a special operations mobile suit that has extremely limited opportunities for resupplying.[1] As a nuclear-powered mobile suit equipped with Neutron Jammer Canceller violated the Junius Treaty, development and production of the N Dagger N were conducted secretly.[2][3] Despite this, the existence of this machine eventually became an open secret, but the OMNI Enforcer refused to officially acknowledged it.[3]

Like the Blitz, all of the N Dagger N's standard weapons were fixed. Its main weapon was the DFH-S2026 "Schildgewehr" Offensive Shield System on the right arm, which was equipped with a high-energy blaster. On its left arm was the Piercer Lock System "Hakenfaust". In addition, one large and one small GES-D07G+ anti-armor swords were equipped on its left side skirt armor, and an Mk315 "Stiletto" Rocket-propelled Anti-armor Penetrator canister was equipped on its right waist. Finally, there were 17 multi-purpose launcher ports located throughout the mobile suit's body. These could load a variety of equipment, with the standard loadout being rocket anchors with polymer wire reels.[1]

Armaments[]

  • Mk315 "Stiletto" Rocket-propelled Anti-armor Penetrator
The N Dagger N was equipped with a rocket-propelled anti-armor penetrator stored in its right-side armor. This was the same weapon used by the GAT-02L2 Dagger L, and could be used for close combat or as a throwing weapon, which could destroy a mobile suit if it hit a critical spot.
  • GES-D07G+ Anti-armor Sword
A pair of anti-armor swords, one long and one short, mounted on the N Dagger N's left side skirt armor. They were developed from the "Armor Schneider" combat knives used by the GAT-X105 Strike Gundam, which have been proven effective by the Strike's combat data.[1] The swords were similar in appearance to a samurai's katana and wakizashi.
  • Piercer Lock "Hakenfaust"
Designed based on the Blitz Gundam's Piercer Lock "Gleipnir", the "Hakenfaust" was mounted on the left forearm and had three claws. Like the "Gleipnir", the "Hakenfaust" was rocket-propelled and could be fired to pierce an enemy unit and retrieved on a line.[1] It could also be used as a melee weapon even when mounted on the forearm.[3]
  • DFH-S2026 "Schildgewehr" Offensive Shield System
Based on the Blitz Gundam's "Trikeros" Offensive Shield System, the "Schildgewehr" was mounted on the right forearm. It was a shield with a built-in energy blaster.[1]
  • 70mm High-energy Blaster
Mounted on the "Schildgewehr" Offensive Shield System, the energy blaster was the N Dagger N's main ranged weaponry and its only beam weapon.[1]

Special Equipment & Features[]

Like the Blitz Gundam, the N Dagger N is fitted with the Mirage Colloid Stealth System, which renders the suit completely invisible to the naked eye and sensors when activated, thus helping the suit in its covert missions. As the suit was produced after the Junius Treaty, this feature is in violation of the treaty, which bans the use of the stealth system.
The Neutron Jammer Canceller counters the effects of the ubiquitous Neutron Jammers and allows the N Dagger N to be powered by nuclear reactors. This helps the suit to meet the high energy consumption of the Mirage Colloid Stealth System and to use it for an unlimited amount of time, unlike the Blitz Gundam, which can only use the system for 80 minutes. This feature is also in violation of the Junius Treaty, which also bans the use of Neutron Jammer Canceller by MS.
  • Multi-purpose Launcher Port
17 multi-purpose launcher ports are installed across the body of the N Dagger N. These ports were normally equipped with rocket anchors with polymer wires, but could be switched to other equipment.[1] The two anchors mounted inside the hands could be used to access and extract data from computers. They could also be used as grappling hooks, allowing the N Dagger N to move without using its thrusters.[4]

History[]

Development[]

The signing of the Junius Treaty imposed restrictions on the development, production, and operation of mobile weapons and vessels equipped with nuclear power and Mirage Colloid stealth technology. As a result, the existence of the N Dagger N, which was already highly secretive, was completely hidden from public view after the treaty came into effect. Officially, the N Dagger N development project was halted, and the team disbanded. In reality, however, its development continued in utmost secrecy. The development team was voluntarily seconded from several weapon manufacturers to a private venture project, and formally neither the military nor the manufacturers were involved. The engineers, self-mockingly, referred to themselves as "Ninja Works" or "Shinobi Mafia", acknowledging their covert nature. One of the "N" in N Dagger N was believed to stand for "Neutron", while the other "N" was thought to be the initial of "Ninja".[1]

Second Alliance-PLANT War[]

While the existence of the N Dagger N was an open secret, the OMNI Enforcer neither acknowledged its combat deployment nor its existence.[1]

In October, C.E. 73, a single N Dagger N dispatched by The Clan met up with a spy who stole data regarding the Second Stage Series from the ZAFT colony Armory One. After copying the data from the shuttle, the stealth suit destroyed it and left the scene using rocket anchors.[5] Later, two N Dagger N units took part in the Armory One raid, but were intercepted by Courtney Heironimus in his XMF-P192P Proto-Chaos.[6]

In the Battle of Heaven's Base, one N Dagger N was piloted by Stephen Wiltshire and used to protect the Nibelung anti-aircraft cannon from being discovered by ZAFT's reconnaissance team before it is used.[7]

Later, during Operation Fury, one abandoned N Dagger N was commandeered by Orb MS pilot Takito Haya Oshidari, who led his team in an attempt to rob the Seiran Family Estate. Using the N Dagger N's Mirage Colloid, Oshidari was able to approach the Seiran mansion without being caught in the battle outside. However, a UTA/TE-6P Geo-GOOhN unexpectedly appeared from underneath the N Dagger N, and contact with its scale motor caused the Mirage Colloid system to fail. Oshidari quickly drew an anti-armor sword and sliced the Geo-GOOhN in half, before realizing that the Geo-GOOhN had made a hole leading directly to the Seiran family's underground vault. Oshidari then abandoned the N Dagger N and took as much precious metal from the vault as he could carry before retreating with his team.[8]

Notes & Trivia[]

  • It is unknown which "N" in the suit's name stands for "Neutron" and "Ninja Works".
  • In Mobile Suit Gundam SEED Battle Destiny, the N Dagger N is given an obvious "ninja" aspect as the SP Special Attack has it entering a sort of "Hyper Mode" (different from the Pilot SP one) after performing a "kagebunshin" technique. For a limited time, the MS' mobility is tripled and all non-melee equipment also recharges faster.
