The GN-0000/7S 00 Gundam Seven Sword (aka 00 Gundam Seven Sword) is a variant of the GN-0000 00 Gundam introduced in the Mobile Suit Gundam 00V side story.

Technology & Combat Characteristics[]

The GN-0000/7S 00 Gundam Seven Sword is the GN-0000 00 Gundam equipped with the close combat-use "Seven Sword" equipment, and it is said to have the highest close combat capabilities at the time.[1][2][3][4] Design and development of the Seven Sword equipment took place in Celestial Being's factory at Lagrange 3, before 00 Gundam's designated Gundam Meister, Setsuna F. Seiei, rejoined the organization.[2][3][4][5] The Seven Sword equipment is a greatly evolved version of the "Seven Swords" used by Setsuna's previous Gundam, the GN-001 Gundam Exia, and all the swords in this equipment are radically different from Gundam Exia's.[1][2][4][5][6] As indicated by its name, the 00 Gundam Seven Sword is armed with seven swords: a GN Sword II Long and a GN Sword II Short stored on the right and left side skirt armor respectively, a GN Buster Sword II stored on the left GN Drive, two GN Katars stored on the added knee armors, and the same pair of GN Beam Sabers as used by the regular 00 Gundam stored on the rear waist armor.[1][2][4][5]

The Gundam Exia's Seven Swords are basically single function melee weapons, with the exception of the GN Sword, which has an alternate Rifle Mode for ranged combat.[4][5][7][8] In comparison, the 00 Gundam Seven Sword has three weapons with multiple functions: GN Sword II Long, GN Sword II Short, and GN Buster Sword II.[2][3][4][5] Like the pair of GN Sword II used by the regular 00 Gundam, the 00 Gundam Seven Sword's GN Sword II Long and GN Sword II Short can switch between Sword Mode and Rifle Mode.[4][5][6][9] However, the GN Sword II Long's Rifle Mode has improved capabilities, while the GN Sword II Short can function like a throwing weapon as its blade tip can be launched on a wire.[2][4][5][6] The GN Buster Sword II is a massive, highly destructive sword that also doubled as a shield, and can generate a large GN Field capable of protecting nearby allied units.[2][4][5][6] Although the GN Katars are single function melee weapons, they featured new technology and are the first heat-type weapon to be adopted by a Gundam.[2][4][5][6] Overall, the weapons of the 00 Gundam Seven Sword made it capable of handling a wide variety of tactics and situations.[4]

Unfortunately, combat deployment of the 00 Gundam Seven Sword was shelved as the Seven Sword equipment lacked the ability to stabilize the Twin Drive System of the 00 Gundam, causing it to be of a lower priority than the GNR-010 0 Raiser support machine, which is equipped with a Twin Drive stabilization system.[2][4][6][10] Additionally, the Seven Sword equipment could not be used simultaneously with the 0 Raiser.[2][3][4][5] Despite this, the equipment remained a possible option for 00 Gundam if there was a mission with heavy emphasis on close combat, or if further improvements were made to the Gundam itself.[2][3] Furthermore, weapon technology from the 00 Gundam Seven Sword was utilized in the development of the GN Sword III used by the combined form of 00 Gundam and 0 Raiser, the GN-0000+GNR-010 00 Raiser.[4][11][12] In the end, the Seven Sword equipment was never used during the conflict in AD 2312, but it was later upgraded for a repaired 00 Gundam, resulting in the GN-0000GNHW/7SG 00 Gundam Seven Sword/G.[4][5][10][13]

Armaments[]

  • GN Buster Sword II
Mounted on the left GN Drive located off the 00 Gundam Seven Sword's left shoulder when not in use, the GN Buster Sword II can transform from a stored state to "GN Shield Mode" (also known simply as Shield Mode) and "GN Sword Mode" (also known simply as Sword Mode).[2][4][6][13] In Shield Mode, parts of the GN Buster Sword II can slide apart to reveal slits that released a large amount of GN Particles for the formation of a huge GN Field barrier.[2][5][10][13] The GN Field covers the entire front surface of the weapon, and although this barrier is only at the front, it can be used to protect nearby allied units.[2][4][6][10] In Sword Mode, the GN Buster Sword II is a massive sword with top-class destructive power.[2][4][6][10] The GN Buster Sword II was created based on Ian Vashti's analysis and improvement of the GNX-607T/AC GN-XII Sword's GN Buster Sword, which was captured by Fon Spaak and then passed to Ian.[2][6][13][14] While the GN Buster Sword II inherited many characteristics of the GN-XII Sword's GN Buster Sword, such as the GN Field generating function, its abilities have been greatly enhanced due to Celestial Being's outstanding technology.[10][14]
  • GN Katar
A pair of medium-sized swords developed as test weapons, they are mounted on the added knee armor.[2][4][5][13] The GN Katar is the first heat-type sword to be adopted by a Gundam.[2][4][5][6] Its blade, which is made from an improved version of the material used in GN Condenser, can convert GN Particles into heat for melting through objects.[2][4][5][13] Theoretically, it is possible to attack with high temperatures that exceeded the limits of the blade's material.[2][4][5][6] The GN Katars are normally handheld when used[5][6][13], but it seemed that they can be used for knee strikes when mounted on the knees.[5]
  • GN Sword II Long
Mounted on the right side skirt armor when not in use, the GN Sword II Long resembled the GN Sword II of the regular GN-0000 00 Gundam, with a lengthened blade section and an added foldable foregrip.[2][4][6][9] Like the GN Sword II, the GN Sword II Long can switch between "Sword Mode" and "Rifle Mode" for melee and ranged combat respectively.[4][5][6][9] However, the abilities of the GN Sword II Long's Rifle Mode have been improved, but it has higher particle consumption and reduced rapid-fire performance.[2][3][4][5] The GN Sword II Long is the only weapon of the 00 Gundam Seven Sword to be designed for long-ranged combat, and was premised on the Twin Drive System being fully operational.[2][3][4][5]
  • GN Sword II Short
Mounted on the left side skirt armor when not in use, the GN Sword II Short resembled the 00 Gundam's GN Sword II, with a shortened blade section.[2][4][6][9] It was developed to replace the GN-001 Gundam Exia's GN Beam Dagger, which Setsuna liked to use as a throwing weapon.[2][4][6][7] However, instead of throwing the entire weapon, the tip of the GN Sword II Short can be launched at the enemy and retracted using the built-in wire, allowing for repeated usage.[2][3][4][5] This wire also granted the weapon a wider variety of uses, such as entangling and pulling the enemy towards the 00 Gundam Seven Sword.[10][13] Like the GN Sword II Long, the GN Sword II Short can switch between "Sword Mode" and "Rifle Mode".[5][6][13]
  • GN Beam Saber
Two GN Beam Sabers are stored on the 00 Gundam's rear waist, and these melee weapons remain usable by the 00 Gundam Seven Sword.[2][4][5][9] When used, the GN Beam Sabers swung sideways for easier drawing.[4][9] The beam blade emitted by the GN Beam Saber has high attack power, but atmospheric conditions and beam scattering/diffusion measures can reduce its power.[4][9] By adjusting its output and shortening the beam blade, this weapon becomes a GN Beam Dagger, which can be thrown to attack distant enemy.[4][5][9]

Special Equipment & Features[]

A system that comprised two original GN Drives, it is the most prominent feature of the GN-0000 00 Gundam.[4][9][11][15] By synchronizing the two GN Drives, the Twin Drive System can produce a GN Particle output that is squared that of a single GN Drive rather than merely doubled.[9][15][16][17] However, synchronizing the two GN Drives was difficult as the five GN Drives that existed at that time had their own subtle individual differences.[4][11][12][18] In the end, the Twin Drive System only activated after the Trans-Am System was briefly used to forcibly pushed the particle synchronization rate of the two GN Drives to over 80%.[4][15][16][18] Despite this, 00 Gundam was still unable to stabilize the system on its own, and this also resulted in its GN Drives overloading when Trans-Am was used in battle.[4][12][19][20] To solve these problems, the Celestial Being engineers turned to the GNR-010 0 Raiser[4][21], a dedicated support machine for 00 Gundam that can dock with the mobile suit.[11][19][22] Equipped with a Twin Drive stabilization system, the 0 Raiser gained a higher priority than the Seven Sword equipment, and since both could not be used simultaneously, deployment of the 00 Gundam Seven Sword was shelved.[2][4][5][6]
A system that when activated would fully release all the GN Particles accumulated in the Gundam, enhancing its mobility and defensive capabilities as well as boosting its output by three fold for a limited time. [8][11][23][24] Additionally, the entire Gundam appeared red and afterimages were generated when moving.[8][20][23][25] However, once Trans-Am ended, the Gundam’s performance would drop as all its GN Particles were used up.[8][23][24][25] This negative effect would last until the stored GN Particles within the Gundam returned to normal level.[8][23] The 00 Gundam and its fellow new Gundams deployed by the Celestial Being in AD 2312 were all designed on the premise of using the Trans-Am System actively, thus, the drop in performance would not be that severe until they could not battle.[4][11][25][26] Furthermore, these Gundams could deactivate the Trans-Am System at any time.[4][25] Unfortunately, the 00 Gundam was unable to use Trans-Am System properly in combat due to its inability to stabilize its Twin Drive System.[4][11][19][20] Since the Seven Sword equipment lacked the Twin Drive stabilization system[4][6][10][13], the 00 Gundam Seven Sword likely faced the same Trans-Am limitation.
A defensive energy barrier created using compressed high-density GN Particles, it can nullify most beams and physical attacks.[4][25] When both of 00 Gundam's GN Drives rotate to the front, their emitted GN Particles can be used to generate a partially visible GN Field to defend against frontal attacks.[4][9][16][18] The 00 Gundam Seven Sword should be able to do the same. Additionally, the 00 Gundam Seven Sword can generate a GN Field using its GN Buster Sword II's Shield Mode.[2][4][6][13]

History[]

Mobile Suit Gundam 00V Vol.011 GN-0000/7S 00 Gundam Seven Sword[]

Sometime after the Celestial Being was defeated by the UN Forces, Amy Zimbalist was approached by a gorgeous Chinese lady who had an odd request. Amy is always glad to meet attractive lady, but they often gave him trouble, and this lady before him was no exception. The lady asked if Amy was interested in playing a game where he would battle a Gundam using a simulator. Although it was only a game, Amy was hesitant to accept the offer. With a mocking smile, the lady wondered if he was afraid of a game and added that she felt sorry for his "Steel Cowboy" moniker. Her goading worked, and Amy accepted the offer. Amy could not tolerate rumors of him running away from a fight, and he also did not want the "Immortal Colasour" to look down on him. Amy never met Colasour, but from his nickname, he assumed the latter to be a skillful pilot, and thus a suitable rival.

In the game, Amy and his GNX-604T Advanced GN-X engaged an unknown Gundam powered by two GN Drives and equipped with seven swords of various sizes. Set in space, the battle was brief, but intense. The fight started in the medium-range zone, with the Gundam launching the tip of its short sword at Amy’s Advanced GN-X. Amy evaded the attack while continuing to close the gap with the enemy. The Gundam then took out a massive sword, and Amy thought this was his chance as the sword’s size would hamper its swinging speed. He immediately charged close to the Gundam. Unexpectedly, the Gundam changed its massive sword into a shield and deployed a GN Field, which struck Amy's Advanced GN-X and stopped it in its track. The Gundam subsequently discarded the massive sword and attacked with a pair of medium-sized swords. The Proto GN Lance used by the Advanced GN-X was easily sliced apart, and Amy was soon defeated.

Amy left the simulator upset and criticized the game as unbalanced. He felt battling an imaginary Gundam with customizable performance specifications was unfair, and having it powered by two GN Drives was excessive. Facing Amy's wrath, the lady calmly thanked him for his help. She remarked that they had obtained sufficient data, and advised Amy to keep the day's events to himself, otherwise it would only bring him trouble. The lady then left with a smile. Several months later, Amy heard about the return of Celestial Being and finally understood the lady's parting words. Despite having different equipment, one of the Celestial Being’s new Gundams was definitely the one Amy battled in the simulator as its two GN Drives were unmistakable. Amy shivered as he realized he had unknowingly assisted in the development of a Gundam. From then on, Amy acted more cautiously, but he still found it hard to avoid beautiful ladies and troubles.

Notes & Trivia[]

  • The model kit manual of the Perfect Grade 1/60 00 Raiser mentioned that weapon technology from the 00 Gundam Seven Sword was used to develop the 00 Raiser's GN Sword III, but it did not specify exactly what this technology is. Fans have speculated the GN Sword III was developed from the GN Katars as both weapons have similar green-colored blades.
  • In the Master Grade model of the 00 Gundam Seven Sword/G, extra parts are provided so that the two GN Katars can combine into an arm-mounted twin edge weapon like the 00 Gundam's GN Shields. There is also an extra handle so that the GN Katars can be used as a handheld twin edge weapon. These are likely gimmicks unique to the model kit as the model kit's manual's profile on the weapon did not mention such use of the weapon.
