Mobile Suit Gundam AGE is the first Gundam series to be supported by a gaming company during anime production.
After War Gundam X is the shortest running non-OVA installment in the series with a total of 39 episodes, while most other series run between 43-50 episodes.
Mobile Suit Gundam 00 was the first long Gundam series that was split into two halves of about 25 episodes, rather than continuing for a full run.
The main character's rival/enemy is almost always a tribute to the legendary Char Aznable from Mobile Suit Gundam, sometimes more obviously than others (Zechs Merquise, Rau Le Creuset, Neo Roanoke and Graham Aker/Mr. Bushido are some of the more obvious tributes to Char Aznable).
The Gundam series pay homage to actress Audrey Hepburn:
- Relena Peacecraft/Darlian was modeled after Audrey Hepburn, with her "Queen of the World" dress being designed after Princess Ann's dress in the 1953 film Roman Holiday.
- Gundam SEED director Mitsuo Fukuda said in a 2003 interview that Lacus Clyne was modeled after Audrey Hepburn.
- In Gundam Unicorn, Mineva Lao Zabi took the alias of "Audrey Burne". Also, a poster for the film "Runaway Princess" is a homage to Roman Holiday.
Mobile Suit Gundam 00 The Movie: A Wakening of the Trailblazer is the first installment in the Gundam franchise to incorporate aliens. This was done in hopes of widening the scope for upcoming Gundam series.
Mobile Suit Gundam AGE was the first Gundam series to incorporate three generations in a single series, with each character pass on their legacy, knowledge and Gundam to their children.
