The Hannibal-class is a large land battleship that appears in the anime series Mobile Suit Gundam SEED Destiny.

Technology & Combat Characteristics

Although it mainly functions as a carrier, the Hannibal-class is well armed, with its weaponry including four dual beam cannons and ten dual machine cannons. Besides these weapons the ship also features 32 smoke dispensers mounted across its hull, allowing it to hide itself in a cloud of smoke if needed. For additional defense the ship is large enough for several mobile suits to stand atop of it to shoot down enemies from above.

Armaments

  • Dual Beam Cannon
  • Dual Machine Cannon
  • Smoke Dispenser

Special Equipment & Features

For moving, the Hannibal-class features four large tank-like tracks. It also has enough internal space to store a large number of mobile suits and it is also designed to carry one of the massive GFAS-X1 Destroy Gundam, which can launch from the large, dome-like structure on top of the ship.

History

Ships of the Hannibal-class were built some times after the First Alliance-PLANT War, with an unknown number of ships active.

During the Second Alliance-PLANT War, a single Hannibal-class carrier, the Bonaparte, was assigned to Neo Roanoke's Phantom Pain unit and used to transport the Destroy, which was ordered to attack areas in western Eurasia which had aligned with ZAFT. During its journey, the ship was attacked by a squadron of ZAFT mobile suits, but they were defeated by the three Gundam pilots defending it. What happened to the ship after the defeat of the Destroy remains unknown.

The ZAFT counterpart for the Hannibal-class, is the equally large and massive Compton-class, which is introduced at around the same time as the Hannibal-class.
