The MIP-X1 is a spacecraft that appears in the Mobile Suit Illustrated 2003 art-book. It is considered to be the origin of the mobile armor.

Technology & Combat Characteristics[]

The MIP-X1 is a high-speed spacecraft equipped with a high-powered generator and manipulator, and a mega-particle cannon with the power of a battleship's main gun.

History[]

In the year U.C. 0071, the Principality of Zeon commissioned Zeonic, Zimmad, and MIP to develop a new weapon that could break through the quantity gap between the Principality of Zeon and the Federation Forces, which was estimated to be ten times greater than that of the Federation Forces, based on the premise that radar and other weapons would become ineffective under the spraying of Minovsky particles. The companies that responded quickly were MIP, which had been working on the development of beam weapons from early on, and Zeonic, which had been developing work robots and researching the AMBAC system.

The MIP-X1, developed by MIP, and the ZI-XA3 Crabman, developed by Zeonic, were submitted for the trial of the new weapon. While the MIP-X1 was a development of an existing spacecraft with enhanced mobility and firepower, the ZI-XA3 was still in its infancy but showed great potential thanks to its revolutionary human-shaped AMBAC system. The ZI-XA3 was eventually adopted, and the Principality of Zeon gave the ZI-XA3 the name "Mobile Suit" and the model number "MS-01" to start the SUIT Project, a full-scale MS development program. Incidentally, although the Zimmad Company excelled in the development of propulsion systems, it was unable to propose any new weapons of its own at the time of this trial, and submitted the EMS-04 Zudah about four years after the decision was made to adopt the MS.

After the outbreak of the One Year War, the MS was unable to demonstrate its outstanding capabilities under limited circumstances due to its versatility, so the development of a mobile weapon specialized for specific purposes (base defense, raids, etc.) without being limited to a humanoid form was advocated, and the MIP-X1, which had lost in a previous competition, was reconsidered. The Principality of Zeon named this large mobile weapon the "Mobile Armor" and asked MIP to conduct further research on it. Since then, many Mobile Armors have been developed by MIP, and have been used in a variety of battlefields.
