Technology & Combat Characteristics
The ∇ was designed by Lowe Guele who used Martian as well as DSSD technology to upgrade an MWF-JG73 Civilian Astray JG Custom in the ∇. When the GSF-YAM01 Δ Astray was severly damaged in a fight against the GAT-X105E Strike E, Lowe also salvaged the "Voiture Lumiere" light propulsion system of the damaged suit, upgraded it and refitted the ∇ with it. Since removing the Δ Astray's nuclear reactor might trigger its self-destruct system, ∇ uses conventional batteries instead. The Voiture Lumiere system was improved in order to keep its performance at same level with the Δ Astray while consuming less energy. The ∇ also has a Lumiere Shield ability, which allows it to capture incoming beam weapon fire and transform it into a field surrounding the unit that can be used as a weapon, similar to the GSX-401FW Stargazer.
Like its predecessor, the ∇ features only light weaponry, which comes in form of a single beam rifle and two beam sabers, with one mounted in each forearm.
Armaments
- Type 70 Beam Saber
- The type 70 beam saber is the standard close combat beam weapon of Orb mobile suits. The MWF-JG73 Civilian Astray JG Custom is equipped with two beam sabers.
- Type 71 Beam Rifle
- The type 71 beam rifle is the standard ranged beam weapon of the Orb military. The beam rifle fires a charged energy beam that is highly effective against most targets, such as mobile suits, but was less effective against targets designed to take beam attacks, such as laminated armor or shields treated with an anti-beam coating.
System Features
- The ∇ were equipped with the "Voiture Lumiere" beam wing propulsion system, an variant of the same system used in the GSX-401FW Stargazer of the DSSD. However, the "Voiture Lumiere" were improved, allowing the ∇ to not only granting the superior agility but it allows to capture incoming beam weapon fire and transform it into a field surrounding the unit that can be used as a weapon.
History
The ∇ was first used by Ergnes Brahe's older sister Setona Winters but was then given to Ergnes who used it after the loss of the Δ Astray. Ergnes would use the ∇ in several additional encounters with the Phantom Pain forces that continued to purse them while they were on earth, until he ultimately defeated both Emilio Bloderick, Dana Snip & their respective MS with some help form some Junk Guild Pilots. Some time in 75 C.E. Ergnes was attacked by an "unknown party" which ultimately resulted in some damage being caused to the ∇ and as a result he visited Lowe in order for some repairs to be carried out. However apon hearing the gravity of the situation he offered ∇'s Voiture Lumiere Engine to Lowe in order to repair and improve upon the MBF-P02 Gundam Astray Red Frame. With the Voiture Lumiere salvaged and installed into the Tactical Arms IIL and alongside "Tiger Pierce" katana left behind by Un'no after their previous battle the MBF-P02Kai Gundam Astray Red Frame Kai was born.
