  • The following user: User:Drazen De Guzman keeps uploading filenames that are just generic time stamps. I tried moving the files, but I keep getting throttled for three consecutive actions.

  • Hi,

I was trying to move the page Mobile Ops: The One Year War to Mobile Suit Gundam: Operation: Troy, since the Mobile Ops name was the localized title, but the game never actually came out in North America— so obviously it should be under the Japanese title, the only title it's officially known by. However, in trying to move it, I discovered that there's another page with that name: a manga adaptation of the game.

So I'm not sure how to resolve this. Should the game get "(video game)" at the end, or should the manga be moved to "(manga)" so the video game gets the vanilla name, or should the vanilla name become a disambiguation page for the two?

  • Hi, I saw that you reverted an edit I made to the Timelines wiki-page, concerning the Regild Century -- during recent rewatches of both Turn A Gundam and Reconguista in G, I took pretty copious notes, and according to the onscreen dialogue in the actual animation, the Regild Century (or at least where the G-Reco story begins) is around 3,000 years following the events of Gundam 0079, and in episode #43 of Turn A Gundam, Lily Borjarno states onscreen that the Universal Century wars were 10,000 years prior to the time period of Turn A (during the characters' viewing of the Dark History files on the Moon), and this figure gets repeated at least 2-3 more times before the end of the series.

Tomino, though I dearly love the guy, is totally talking out of his butt when he tries to suddenly retcon things with bizarre dates that don't even match what's established right onscreen ("500 years"?). It's almost as if he hasn't even paid attention to the hard onscreen dates in his own series, and Sunrise's current policy is whatever is animated is official, but comments made during a convention-panel are probably more nebulous. He might end up retconning this onscreen in the upcoming G-Reco movies, but for the moment I was just going by the actual animation, there, and I wanted to drop you a line to explain my reasoning on this one, and to see what your opinion was.

Anyways, if you have any thoughts about this, please feel free to let me know, and thanks.

Then cite the source as episode 43 of Turn A if you want to add that to the article.

Don't conflate them, keep that info separate. Put how long CC is after UC in CC's section of the page and how long RC is in RC's section of the page. No estimation.

    • All right, sounds good -- in fact, here are my notes that I took during my recent rewatches of G-Reco and Turn A Gundam, which I'll just copy/paste for the purpose of simplicity (done in the form of a near-essay -- and I'll distill them down significantly for the article itself):

      ===================

      [BEGIN]

While there are some "nods" to Turn A Gundam in Gundam Reconguista in G (such as naming one of the geographic regions "Ameria"), the only way the worldbuilding makes sense and lines up properly is if the Regild Century precedes the Correct Century chronologically.

Many people believe that the Capital Tower in G-Reco ends up as the "Bough of Ades" in Turn A, since it's basically in the exact same region of South America in both shows, possibly as part of the same larger facility that dealt with orbital transit. If we're going by documented stuff, the Japanese MG Turn X Manual officially states that the timeline starts with the UC and ends with the CC, with everything else in the middle in an unspecified order.

There's endless onscreen conversation all over the place in G-Reco about the world still "recovering" from the destruction of the Universal Century, and how various scientific laboratories are trying to move this process along (despite the taboos) so that humanity can finally put the devastation of both the (back-to-back) A.D. and UC eras behind them for good.

If the Dark History/Correct Century era somehow fell in between the Universal Century and the Regild Century, the characters would have almost certainly mentioned it in the dialogue, but they never do.

Also, in Turn A Gundam, only a very few people even know the ancient term "Universal Century," and most of the characters first hear about it in episodes #43 and #44, when the Dark History files are broadcast. In G-Reco, the UC is still a major specter haunting the lives of the Earth's population during the Regild Century, something they're still dealing with it as a painful cultural memory.

Some other definite evidence from the show:

      • The Towasanga colonists in Gundam Reconguista in G are mentioned as being only a few generations removed from the Earthnoid refugees who settled on the Moon at the very end of the Universal Century, and who are subsequently seeking to reclaim their planetary birthright by reconquering the Earth.
      • The Kuntala people became a cannibalistic food-source for others during the food-crisis that occurred in the closing stages of the Universal Century era, and it is mentioned in episodes #7 and #13 that the UC era lasted some 2,000 years before it ended. Although discrimination against the Kuntala somewhat diminished in the subsequent Regild Century era, prejudice still remains, as people of Kuntala origin are still not admitted into important positions in the government and military until approximately Bellri's time (some 1,014 years later, give or take).
      • At one point in Episode #15, Klim boasts to opposing Towasanga pilots that the Space Jahannam mobile-suit "[As] constructed by Ameria, [can] be considered the fruit of the Universal Century!!"
      • In G-Reco episode #17, Col. Rusita directly states that the Universal Century was "[the] previous era," relative to the Regild Century, referring to how the conflicts of the UC are once again starting to spill over into the subsequent Regild Century (with nothing mentioned whatsoever of the Correct Century having taken place between the two eras, which Tomino had every opportunity to establish when in production on Gundam Reconguista in G).
      • In episode #19, Elle Kind (captain of the Crescent Ship) directly mentions that history books from the Universal Century era still exist and are still in wide circulation, which gave the Towasanga colony its technological basis for developing the "Rose of Hermes" blueprints, constructing the G-Self mobile suit, the photonic energy-dispersion principles for ships' outer hulls, etc. None of these books evidently exist any longer in the Turn A Gundam time period (even Gundams exist only as vague, blurry legends to the Moonrace during the Correct Century).
      • In episode #24, Klim Nick heatedly refers to how irresponsible it would be to trust the Dorette Fleet in their battle against the Capital Army, still being "burdened [by the] trauma of the Universal Century's wars." If G-Reco were truly set after Turn A Gundam, there would've also been mention of the Dark History (unquestionably the most destructive war in human history) as well as the Correct Century, etc., there.
      • Newtypes are still extremely well-known during the Regild Century, as are Minovsky Particles. Neither are directly referenced at any point during Turn A Gundam.
      • In episode #43 of Turn A Gundam, Lily Borjarno flat-out states onscreen that the Universal Century wars were 10,000 years prior to the time period of Turn A (during the characters' viewing of the Dark History files on the Moon). This figure is repeated onscreen in episodes #44 and #47.
      • Corin Nander was in cryogenic sleep apparently for much much longer than Dianna Soreil, as he apparently suffered some form of brain damage while in stasis. He's mentioned as having been around since the Black History, which occurs at least 2,345 years before the main story takes place. It's implied he's actually the sole survivor of the colony Quatre blew up with Wing Zero during his epic freakout. This would push his original date of birth to far outside the retconned timeframe mentioned by Tomino after production on G-Reco ended.
      • At the end of Gundam Reconguista in G, the series shows another bit of how it connects to Turn A, as the Crescent Moon is leaving the Solar System to find a new planet to live on, and the Turn X is later created by humans living outside the Solar System prior to the Correct Century.

Going strictly by the actual onscreen evidence presented in the Sunrise animation, there's at least three thousand years between the various Universal Century and Regild Century series, and at least 7,000 years between the RC and Correct Century series, and that's just what was directly referenced in the shows. A lot happens over that kind of timescale, but unfortunately it just can't all be shown, or even guidebooked about.

      [END]

I'll work on distilling this all down into a workable article-entry, when I have time shortly, here.

  • Hi there FortressMaximus! I'm Jamie from FANDOM's Community Development team! Not sure if we never asked you if you are interested in turning on the Discussions feature for this community, and migrating the Threaded Forums across as well.

In case you are unaware of the feature, Discussions was introduced last year to help communities engage with users and fans. It lives in its own space on the wiki and allows users to interact with other members of the community. It is also mobile friendly and gives mobile users a chance to contribute and engage with the community, and possibly turn them into wiki editors as well. Discussions also links with our FANDOM Apps, which this community has and it allows app users to easily take part in Discussions as well. You can read more about Discussions here.

For more information on migrating forums to Discussions, you can check out this blog over on Community Central that explains everything in detail.

If you have some concerns, Discussions, and Forums can exist side-by-side in case you do not want to migrate just yet. However, eventually all Forums will be migrated over to Discussions and Forums will be sunsetted as a feature, so getting ahead of the curve is never a bad idea.

Feel free to have an open discussion with your community about this, and I'm available for any questions you might have. Have a good one!

  • SweetPotatoDingo edited quite a few of the MS entries for G-Reco on September 13.  Aside from the grammatical errors, spelling errors, and typos, some of the information is simply incorrect.  For example, he stated that the Elf Bullock cannot fly in MS mode, which it clearly does in Episode 6.  Is it possible to revert those pages to their previous state?
