Metatron (メタトロン) is a spacenoid resistance movement found within the novel Gaia Gear; as well as its radio drama.

Metatron was originally formed in the year U.C.0155 under the alias of the "Z Organization". Over the decades, the movement's leadership would change hands over time; and with it, it's name would also change. First from the Z Organization, then to Zi Zeon and then finally to the name of Metatron in U.C.0203. The organization's leadership believes itself to be the final bearers of the Zeon independence-seeking mantle. They believe themselves to be the true heirs to Char Aznable's knowledge and wisdom. It's current leadership is comprised of former federation officers and it's entire military force largely employs massive amounts of civilian volunteers. Their purpose is to finally bring an end to the federation's control that has left the colonies in this time period in total disrepair. Their chief opponents in this struggle are that of the Earth Federation's "Man Hunting Attachment".

History[]

The organization later known as Metatron would be founded in the year U.C.0155 under the alias of a group known as "The Z Organization". It is unclear of who founded this group originally, but it's current leadership is comprised of space-born former-federation officers; who grew tired of the federation government's corruption.

Over the passing decades, the organization would publicly reveal itself as "Zi Zeon" a political activist group that sought to change the legislature of the federation to better serve the colonies who we're struggling financially.

Finally, after the earth federation government granted permission to the Man Hunting Attachment to allow it's forces to begin policing the colonies. The Zi Zeon organization would finally dawn the name of Metatron. Forming a massive resistance movement against the encroaching grip of the federation's deportation forces. As they had now been turned into a secret police force for the colonies. At first, their conflict would be fought at a back step and in secret, but once they acquired their greatest chance of success. That being their new leader in the form of Afranche Char, the conflict between the manhunters and Metatron would quickly erupt into all-out war.

Fighting would persist throughout this conflict as Man-Machines would be deployed en-masse as the metatron forces pushed the manhunter's out of the colonies and back towards the earth; and once the manhunters launched their coup d'état against the federation government, the forces under Afranche Char's command would band together with the last-surviving and heavily struggling loyal federation forces to rescue the federation's cabinet from the manhunter's leader Bijon Dargol. Resulting in a massive man machine battle fought in the skies above Bavaria. After this fight, the manhunters would be vanquished. But unfortunately, the space forces of metatron at the end would largely abandon Afranche and his allies to fight the final closing battles against the hunters down on earth; leaving Afranche alone and without support. He would survive this final battle; where he would return home to his island with his fiance Everly Key. Afranche, content with the journey he had gone on and knowing his home was now safe and protected from men like Dargol who had hoped to ravage it, was now left to live happily on the island where he was first raised. Living out the rest of his days in peaceful seclusion.

Notes & Trivia[]

  • Metatron is the name of an angel found in both Jewish and Early-Christian scriptures. They are depicted as a "seraphim" that acts as both a judge at the gates of heaven; as well as a record keeper for god, keeping track of all the souls that enter within heaven's domain once they pass on.
  • It isn't directly stated in Gaia Gear who was originally responsible for the creation of Metatron. However, from a line of dialogue found in the final chapters of the last book of Mobile Suit Gundam: Hathaway's Flash, there is a possibility that Kenneth Sleg was the original founder of the "Z Organization" with the name Metatron acting as his own end goal for that organization. The name of Metatron acting as both a clever nod to his love for ancient mythology; as well as a symbol of Kenneth's own desire for penance after the actions that he took which led to the death of Hathaway Noa and the things he had done to end with the federation so callously mistreating his execution. Resulting in the manhunter's that he himself once led, now beginning their own march towards becoming tyrants. An organization that he originally desired to lead to great heights.
  • The insignia for Metatron is meant to take the form of a cemetery cross used for fallen soldiers at burials. With each end of the cross stretching behind it as the ends overlap; invoking the idea that the group fights with the souls of fallen heroes at their backs. With those extending crosses converging and acting like wings to carry them towards victory.
