History

In U.C. 0071, he was a second lieutenant assigned to help test the mobile workers, humanoid mobile weapons which were secretly being developed at the Dark Colony alongside Mash and Ortega. He is also an old acquaintance of Ramba Ral. Gaia would participate in the attempt to stop Torenov Y. Minovsky's escape to the Federation, but he would destroy an opposing GM which subsequently collapsed and accidentally killed Minovsky. He later becomes the leader of the Black Tri-Stars with Mash and Ortega, and the group would target Admiral Johann Ibrahim Revil's flagship before capturing the admiral himself during the Battle of Loum. The group would be among the many aces recognized in the succeeding banquet celebrating Zeon's victory.

Following the battle of Loum, Gaia and his team were transferred to Earth following the death of Garma Zabi at Los Angeles against the White Base. M'Quve would greet the group and present them with their MS-09 Dom, which they would take on a test run at Lima. During their stay in South America, a fight would break out at the neutral town of Cuzco, but Gaia and the others break the fight, though surprised to meet members of the White Base as a result. Once the groups left the town, Gaia chased the ship to the Urubamba Gorge where both sides battled. Initially, the "Jet Stream Attack" that the group perfected worked effectively, destroying two of the ship's RX-75 Guntank and backing Amuro Ray's RX-78-02 Gundam into a corner.

Amuro, however, noticed that the "Jet Stream Attack" potentially left its rear members exposed, and used Miguel as a stepping stone to destroy Mash's Dom. Gaia and Ortega were forced to retreat, but would successfully destroy Matilda Ajan's Medea as a consolation for Mash's death.

The pair would soon try to get revenge on the Gundam by leading a full squad of Doms at Lake Van as they surrounded Sayla Mass's Core Booster. The Gundam would arrive to try and rescue Sayla and would attack the squad. Even though they outnumbered the Gundam, Amuro's skills improved significantly since their previous fight, and Gaia, alongisde Ortega and the rest of their squad, was killed by the Gundam.
