Technological and Combat CharacteristicsEdit

A transformable mobile suit, the NRX-0015 Gundam Ashtaron is capable of transforming into a Mobile Armor form, which despite being bulky made the Ashtaron a fast and agile machine. In its MA form, the Ashtaron was capable of acting as a flight platform for the NRX-0013 Gundam Virsago, which could stand atop the suit. Also, when in MA form, the Astharon could be equipped with an ejectable flight booster, allowing the unit to cover vast distances in flight.

Armed with a wide variety of weapons, the main armament of the Gundam Ashtaron were its two backpack-mounted atomic scissors claws, which were powerful enough to grapple on another mobile suit and crush it, but also gentle enough to grip a human without harming it. Each scissors claw also mounted a single beam cannon. For close combat, the Ashtaron was equipped with a single beam saber, while the suit also featured four nose beam cannons for use in MA mode only. The last fixed armament of the Ashtaron was a pair of shoulder-mounted machine cannons. Optionally, the suit could also carry a beam crossbow.

Despite the machine being based of the GB-9700 Belphagor, the Ashtaron is not equipped with a Flash system. It could be an indication that the Ashtaron was never intended for any Newtype based technologies, nor did it require the any improved levels of control.

HistoryEdit

Created by the New United Nations Earth at an unknown point of time, the Gundam Ashtaron was piloted by Olba Frost. Olba often worked together with his older brother Shagia Frost who piloted the Gundam Virsago. While it is unknown when their Gundams were fielded, before the formations of the New UNE, the brothers often acted as freelance mobile suit pilots.

Their first known appearance was in AW 0015, when Olba was able to infiltrate the Vulture ship Freeden with the Ashtaron after battling with a small number of RMS-009 Septem units, getting "rescued" by the Freeden's mobile suits. After staying at the ship for several days, he escaped in the Ashtaron, kidnapping Newtype girl Tiffa Adill in the process. After delivering her to the Alternative Company, Olba headed off to help his brother in the fight against a group of Vultures, especially Garrod Ran in his GX-9900 Gundam X. The two of them were however forced to retreat when Gundam pilots Roybea Loy and Witz Sou joined the battle in their respective suits.

In the following months, Olba and his Gundam Ashtaron faced off against the Gundams of the Freeden many more times. When a new war was about to start between the New UNE and the Space Revolutionary Army the Gundam Ashtaron was upgraded into the NRX-0015-HC Gundam Ashtaron Hermit Crab.
