History
The unit first appeared in manga Plamo-Kyoshiro, the first non-UC Gundam, in other media. When the unit officially became part of the Universal Century Timeline, it retconned back with a UC mecha setting.
In it's UC setting, the Perfect Gundam II is the proposed upgrade to the RX-178 Gundam Mk-II. But seeing it as a rough draft, the developers at Anaheim Electronics decided to redo its design to make it more stable, leading to the creation of the FA-178 Full Armor Gundam Mark II.
