Technology & Combat Characteristics
The second mobile suit built by Paptimus Scirocco aboard the Jupitris during the Gryps Conflict, the Palace Athene was a mobile suit built for offense. Though normally armed with four beam guns in its torso and claws on its feet, it could also be outfitted with a heavy 2-barrel beam gun, eight battleship-grade long-range missiles, and a shield mounting several small missile launchers. Although the extra equipment gave the Palace Athene the firepower equivalent of a large mobile armor or space battleship, its bulk and size did cause it to suffer a lack of good speed and maneuverability.
- Mega Beam Gun/Beam Saber
- Scattering Beam Gun
- Movable Shield
- Large Missile
- 2-barrel Beam Gun
- Grenade Launcher
- Small Missile Launcher
Special Equipment & Features
- Foot Claws
- The heel spurs can rotate forward while the toes can pivot down for the feet to form claws. This enables the Palace Athene to grasp and pierce enemy mobile suits with its feet.
Just like many of Scirocco's mobile suits, only one Palace Athene was built, and it was assigned to former AEUG pilot-turned-Scirocco supporter Reccoa Londe, who piloted it from the Battle of the Gate of Zedan to its destruction at the Battle of Gryps.
Notes & Trivia
- The "Palace Athene" is named for "Athena" (sometimes known as "Pallas Athena"), the Greek goddess of Warfare.
- In Dynasty Warriors Gundam 2, it is very powerful against numerous enemies, due to its overwhelming firepower.
- In Mobile Suit Gundam: Gundam vs. Zeta Gundam, the Palace Athene can only sortie with one of its additional weapons. If not given either the missiles or shield, it can use the scattering beam gun as its sub weapon.
