The RMS-117 Galbaldy β High Mobility Type is a mobile suit that appears in the novel Advance of Zeta: The Flag of Titans.

Technology & Combat Characteristics[]

Equipped with a booster pod similar to that used by other Titans Test Team machines. This booster pod contains the same supplemental generator installed in the Hazel’s movable booster pod, and it has a pair of weapon latches that can hold shield boosters, long-range cannons, or missile pods. The Galbaldy Beta was equipped with multiple hard points for mounting optional weapons and equipment.

One configuration of the Galbaldy Beta High Mobility Type equips it with the standard 120mm machine gun used by Zeon mobile suits, while a missile pod is mounted on the left side of its back and a HiZack Cannon is mounted on the right, the same cannon used on the RMS-106C HiZack Cannon. Another configuration equips the Galbaldy Beta with the beam rifle used by the RGM-79CR and the Gundam Hazel series, with a Smart Beam Gun and Disc Radome System mounted on the back.

Armaments[]

  • Beam Saber
The beam saber is a small device held in the mobile suit's hands when deployed and is powered by a rechargeable energy capacitor. It emits high-energy Minovsky particles to form a blade-shaped I-field (via manipulation of electromagnetic fields), and then fills this I-field shell with superheated Minovsky particle plasma to produce an effective cutting blade. A beam saber is stored in each of Galbaldy β's shoulder armor.
  • Beam Rifle
A standard hand carried ranged beam weapon is the beam rifle, which is powered by a rechargeable energy cap. Capable of firing concentrated mega particles, attacks from a beam rifle can damage any ordinary armor that has not been specially treated to resist it.
  • 120mm Machine Gun Kai
A recreation of the original Zaku II's machine gun to provide a cheaper and less energy-consuming weapon. It is a shell firing gun that does not require energy to be used, however, its effectiveness against heavy armor is very limited. It features an improved stock and improved accuracy with a Federation standard sensor. The Galbaldy β High Mobility Type uses the machine gun as its primary armament when its booster pod is mounted with shield boosters.
  • Extendable Shield
A basic arm-mounted defense armament for many mobile suits. The shield is a thick sheet of armor designed to take severe punishment that would normally destroy a mobile suit. Shields are also treated with an anti-beam coating to withstand several beam shots before the coating wears off. Typically, physical shields can only take so much damage before they succumb to the pressure and break.
  • Missile Launcher
The Galbaldy β's shield, unlike the original Galbaldy α's shield, possesses minor offensive capabilities as it is built with a pair of single use missile launchers on the underside. Each missile launcher is loaded with a single small missile that can typically do significant damage to a mobile suit or another similarly armored target but is less effective against the heavy armor of a battleship.
  • 240mm Cannon
The Galbaldy β High Mobility Type typically mounts a large 240mm cannon similar to the Hi-Zack Cannon. The cannon is placed on the right side of the booster pod and is useful for long to mid-range attacks. Because it is a projectile weapon instead of a beam weapon, the load on the generator is reduced. The cannon is magazine fed from the back.
  • 3-tube Missile Pod
The Galbaldy β High Mobility Type typically mounts a pair of 3-tube missile pods on the left side of the booster pod, providing mid to long ranged bombardment capabilities.
  • Smart Beam Gun
One optional weapon for the Galbaldy β High Mobility Type is a Beam Smart Gun, which was a specialized firearm designed for high precision attacks. The particle deflecting system at the muzzle can bend the output beam by up to 20 degrees. As such, the Beam Smart Gun does not need to be aimed directly at the target, making it incredibly dangerous. This weapon would later be used as a primary weapon for the RMS-141 Xeku Eins. The Beam Smart Gun is typically mounted on the right side of the booster pod.

Special Equipment[]

  • Signal Flare Launcher
The Galbaldy β High Mobility Type mounts a signal flare launcher in its head. The flare launcher can launch flares of several different colors, allowing the Galbaldy β to send easily identifiable messages even when there is a high Minovsky particle density.
  • Booster Pod
The Galbaldy β High Mobility can mount a single articulated booster on an extended hinge for a great boost in speed and mobility. The binder mounts a pair of hardpoints on the booster pod: with one on each side of the pod, as well as a sensor unit atop the pod itself. The booster pod typically mounts a 240mm cannon on its right side and a pair of 3-tube missile pods on its left side, providing additional firepower against mobile suits and ships at the cost of some lost acceleration due to the additional weight. The booster pod is compatible with other optional loadouts for the Galbaldy β High Mobility Type, either using a pair of shield boosters or a smart beam gun and a disc radome system.
  • Disc Radome System
The Galbaldy β High Mobility Type can optionally mount a radome system for long ranged reconnaissance roles, allowing it to gather intelligence and specific details with the use of high powered scanners and data pods without risk of radar based detection or corruption via Minovsky particle interference. When equipped, the Disc Radome System is mounted on the left side of the booster pod.
  • Apogee Binder
The Galbaldy β High Mobility Type can mount a pair of apogee binders on its chest, which are large extensions jutting out the front of the mobile suit. These extensions are equipped with a set of additional retrogade thrusters to provide deceleration should the mobile suit require it. These binders also hold mounting points for ammunition, either drum magazines or E-Pacs depending on the Galbaldy β High Mobility Type's loadout.
  • Shield Boosters
The Galbaldy β High Mobility can optionally mount a pair of shield boosters on the booster pod, with one on each side. Each shield booster is armed with a mega particle cannon, as well additional thrusters to further enhance the Galbaldy β High Mobility Type's speed and agility.

History[]

The MS-17 Galbaldy, a mobile suit developed by the Principality of Zeon at the end of the One Year War, was captured by the Federation intact and used in testing following the war, it would be developed further in the form of the improved Galbaldy Beta. Its cockpit was converted to a linear seat and its operating system replaced with a newer version, and the mobile suit’s weight was substantially reduced by completely remodeling its exterior. Thanks to these modernizing improvements, it remains in use on the front lines as of U.C. 0086. Since these machines were produced at the Federation Forces’ Luna II base, most of them are assigned to the space forces centered around the Luna II garrison. The basic performance of the Galbaldy Beta is equivalent to that of the GM II and Hizack, Tests are performed using the machine that is assigned to the Titans Test Team along with Lieutenant Maxim Gunar, but since it has no particular distinctive qualities it was not formally adopted by the Titans.
