The Republic of East Asia (東アジア共和国 Higashiajia Kyōwakoku?) is a nation featured in Mobile Suit Gundam SEED and Mobile Suit Gundam SEED Destiny. Its territory consists of China, Japan, the Korean Peninsula, Mongolia and Taiwan, with Taipei being its capital and Kaohsiung being the location of its main spaceport. It is the third largest power in the Earth Alliance.
History
First Alliance-PLANT War
Nearly eleven months after the Bloody Valentine Tragedy, ZAFT forces had approached to within six kilometers of Kaohsiung. During a broadcast seven kilometers away, the sounds of the severe battle continued to echo. Kira Yamato, Tolle Koenig and Miriallia Haw would watch the bulletin weeks later.[1]
During the battle, ZAFT managed to destroy the Republic of East Asia's mass driver, the first mass driver in the Earth Alliance to be destroyed.
At the end of the War, Taiwan was returned to the Republic of East Asia.
Second Alliance-PLANT War
After the Chairman of PLANT Supreme Council Gilbert Durandal revealed the existence of LOGOS, in the later part of the war, the Republic of East Asia, with its large naval fleet, allied themselves with ZAFT. Their fleet was present at Gibraltar when the LHM-BB01 Minerva returned. The Republic of East Asia lost a huge chunk of their fleet during the first wave of attack against the LOGOS stronghold, Heaven's Base, in Iceland.
