Techology & Combat Chatacteristics
The armaments of the ZAKU Trial Type are few and simple. They consist of two hip-mounted large caliber railguns, similar to the configuration used on the ZGMF-X10A Freedom. These railguns are the only long range weapon equipped on the ZAKU Trial Type. For close combat, the suit features two DFX25 high frequency blade tomahawks, which are stored on the back when not in use. Lastly, a single spiked shield is mounted on the left arm for defense.
Interestingly, the ZAKU Trial Type does not feature any beam weapons, an oddity since ZAFT had already deployed a number of mobile suits equipped with beam weapons, including mass production units such as the ZGMF-600 GuAIZ, and the suit itself has sufficient power to wield them due to its nuclear fission reactor.
Armaments
- Large Caliber Railgun
- Railguns mounting magnetic sliding rails, which employ electro-magnetic properties to accelerate physical metal projectiles to high velocities, giving them tremendous kinetic energy.
- DFX25 High Frequency Blade Tomahawk
- High frequency blades employing a technology that oscillates the blades at high speeds. This generates a chainsaw effect, with the blade striking an object thousands of times in the span of a second.
- Shield
- A simple solid shield, mounted on the left arm, for providing some protection against enemy attacks.
System Features
Since it was created before the Treaty of Junius was signed, the ZAKU Trial Type uses a nuclear fission reactor for energy and thus is also equipped with a Neutron Jammer Canceller. For added protection, the suit also features Phase Shift armor.
History
Shortly after the end of the Bloody Valentine War, ZAFT began to design a new series of mobile suits which would be part of the "New Millennium" series. The result was the ZAKU Trial Type, which became the first unit in the ZAFT Armed Keeper of Unity series. In December CE 71, the first ZAKU Trial Type was fielded, which was equipped with a nuclear reactor. However, after the Treaty of Junius banned all military applications of the N-Jammer Canceller, the mass production ZAKU units were created with standard energy batteries. The Phase Shift armor was also dropped.
One ZAKU Trial Type was piloted by ZAFT pilot Courtney Heironimus, who tested the suit in the United States of South America in December, CE 71. During the testing, Courtney engaged several GAT-02L2 Dagger L units in combat. Afterwards he fought against the MWF-JG71 Raysta of Yoon Sefan, which was piloted by Barry Ho, who managed to evade Courtney and eventually escape.
