The ZM-GE-03 Zong is a space-type mobile armor that appears in the manga side story Mobile Suit Victory Gundam Outside Story and Mobile Suit Crossbone Gundam: Ghost. It is closely based on the MSN-02 Zeong and is piloted by Scale Sarpris.
Technology & Combat Characteristics[]
Operated by the Zanscare Empire, the Zong was created using the MSN-02 Zeong as a reference. Like the Zeong, the Zong has no legs and is armed with a pair of five-barrel mega particle guns in its arms. Unlike the Zeong, the Zong's mega particle guns can generate beam sabers from four of the five barrels. The Zong also has the ability to separate its body into various parts for all-range attacks.
The Zong's true strength, however, comes from its pilot, Scale Sarpris, who has the ability to emit "fault" psychowaves. This causes the enemy to see countless illusions of the Zong attacking. The illusion was almost perfect, and it was able to fool both Newtype spatial sense and electronic sensors alike. However, when Grey Stoke fires the Gump's High Mega Cannon and causes a sudden flash, only the real Zong casts a shadow.
Armaments[]
- 5-barrel Mega Particle Gun
- Each of the Zong's forearms are in essence powerful mega particle guns with five barrels built into the fingers. This creates a powerful spread of beams that is nearly impossible to avoid and can destroy multiple machines.
- Beam Saber
- Four out of five barrels of the mega particle guns can emit a beam saber. This is an improvement over the Zeong, which had no close-combat weapons of its own.
Special Equipment & Features[]
- Separation System
- The Zong can separate its body into various parts (head, chest, waist and arms) for all-range attacks.
History[]
Just as the League Militaire was inspired by the RX-78-2 Gundam to create the Victory type, Zanscare scientists were inspired by the MSN-02 Zeong used by the Principality of Zeon over seven decades ago. The Zong was a recreation of the Zeong's concept using the latest technology.
One such unit was assigned to a Zanscare special unit composed entirely of young Newtype pilots. It was piloted by Scale Sarpris, a Newtype with the ability to create illusions by projecting false images into the minds of enemy pilots. In U.C. 0153, the Zanscare Newtype corps engaged Uso Ewin's LM314V21 Victory 2 Gundam near Side 6. Sarpris, piloting the Zong, was able to defeat Uso in battle by confusing him with illusions. He also destroyed the mobile suit of Kamui Gian, a member of the Newtype corps, since she rejected an advance made by him earlier. Both Uso and Kamui drifted into space and were rescued by Grey Stoke.
Later, Zanscare detected a massive space colony in Side 6 made up of two enclosed-type colonies connected together. Believing it was a Colony Laser, the Zanscare Newtype corps was dispatched to either capture or destroy it. In reality, the colony was the Dandy Lion, a generation ship led by Grey Stoke, who wanted to leave the warring Earth Sphere behind for Alpha Centauri.
However, even after discovering the true purpose of the colony, Sarpris continued attacking it, saying that if he destroys it, no one will ever know that the colony is not a colony laser, and he will be hailed as a hero for removing a grave threat to the Zanscare homeland. However, he was confronted by both Uso and Kamui, piloting the V2 Gundam and the Blue V2 Gundam (a mobile suit kept by the Dandy Lion) respectively.
During the battle, Sarpris once again began confusing the two with illusions, while also using the Zong's separation ability to attack them from all sides. However, Grey Stoke, piloting the severely outdated Gump, tried to convince him to join his ship and leave the Earth Sphere behind, saying he is a far more advanced Newtype than other. However, Sarpris, deeply distrustful of others due to his experience of being used for his ability yet also being feared because of it, Sarpris rejected him.
Seeing that there is no longer hope for Sarpris, Grey Stoke lamented that he was born too early, and fired the Gump's high mega cannon at the Zong. Due to severe energy depletion and the Gump's battle damage, the high mega cannon was little more than a powerful beam of light. However, Uso saw that of among countless Zong copies created by Surplice's illusions, only one cast a shadow on the Dandy Lion's wall. Uso immediately chased after it. The Zong attempted to fire at Uso's V2 Gundam, only to hit an illusion created by Kamui. Finally, Uso was able to destroy the Zong, killing Sarpris and saving the Dandy Lion.
